All deals over $600 were supposed to be revealed by the terms of the House so-called settlement. Many schools that supported the settlement are, for various reasons, not disclosing the terms of the deal.
The only winner in this settlement? The defense attorneys, who I am certain charged a robust hourly fee, but their lucre pales in light of the $750 million awarded to the plaintiffs' attorneys. These newly wealthy lawyers are already whining about deals outside of 'market value' being set aside.
How long before the nouveau riche round up a group of new plaintiffs and file another suit against the NCAA, and all those following the terms of the settlement for price fixing? You can't have too many private jets, right?
If the folks who pay the bills, the fanatics, the fans, had standing, the NCAA would have been put out of business long ago.
Without reporting, the estimate of the teams paying the most for players is a WAG, except perhaps for Texas Tech, which can't stop boasting about the $55 million payroll. (And the $1 million per annum for a softball pitcher from Stanford.) When the onion is peeled back, agents touting their deal-making prowess appear to be exaggerating the per annum payments. Shocking.
Oregon and Georgia lost an OL recruit to Miami because they dropped out of the bidding. Georgia did nothing to try to retain the services of $4 million QB Carson Beck, who has all of the skills other than leadership. Knowing when to fold up is prudent.
At the SEC media days, Kirby Smart asked at what dollar amount a player is satisfied. Is a player making $200,000.00, using Kirby's example, hungry for wins? Is he willing to put in the extra work required to win championships? Are young men playing for the love of the game or just the money?
With a largely unregulated right to transfer, what is more important today, recruiting, the portal, or paying your best players to stick around for another season, like Michigan in 2023 and Ohio State last season?
Many 4* and 5* players will not play up to their ranking out of high school. I'm waiting for one of Dan's 5 stars to show up and ball out in game one of his year one. Dak?
You know the value of experienced players on your roster, and portal rankings are based in part on how a player performed in college. And the retained players and the experienced players are not interested in obnoxious (IMO) 'It's all about Me!' chest pounding.
I have yet to see an NFL free agent go on (un)social media to let the fans of his new team and the sporting world at large know just how great he is.
Thanks for the post. I'm reasonably certain player agents know the teams with the deepest pockets. 🤑

"Coming out of Destin" and other lies from Sankey that journalists buy without question.
90% plus of the articles quoting the B12's support for the 5-11 model do not include the B12's support is conditioned upon the SEC and the ACC playing nine conference games.
On July 22nd, I hope Tony Petitti comes out firing against Sankey and his horse manure.

I've criticized this ill-conceived so-called 'settlement' enough. This article speaks for itself. NIL deals are being set aside as called for in the settlement, and folks, including the nouveau riche plaintiffs' attorneys, are whining about the terms of the settlement being enforced?
And schools in conferences that supposedly support the settlement are refusing to disclose the terms of NIL agreements.
Why did anyone put lipstick on this pig in the first place?

If the SEC stays with 8 conference games, the PO should stay at 12. The B1G is No. 1 in $$$ and will stay at No. 1 if the PO stays with 12 teams in the field.

If you are in Iowa City on November 8th, bring warm clothing.
If there, you will see in person the winningest coach in B1G history. Kirk Ferentz is two wins away from passing Woody Hayes. This is Kirk's 27th season at Iowa. Looking at the average per-season win totals, Dan, now in his 4th season, should pass Ferentz before the 2048 season. 😁

Thank you, Stevan.
Malchow was a terrific hire by Dan Lanning. But unlike the situation at SC, he wasn't brought in to rescue recruiting, or fire the HC at Stanford like Andrew Luck, or win a power struggle at Cal, Rivera over Wilcox, with every quality Cal player transferring out. Or to prop up six-time Super Bowl winner and $10 million a year man, Bill Belichick, at UNC.
I see many of these GMs being brought in to patch holes that multi-million-dollar coaches can't fix. Recruiting, with the help of heaps of cash, has seemingly been fixed at SC. But the newbies have to be coached up; will this happen in South Central?
Unfortunately, Luck isn't suiting up for the Cardinal, and Riveria is also out of eligibility at Cal. I don't expect these two programs to ace the ACC anytime soon. And Tom Brady isn't suiting up at QB at UNC. Without Tom Brady, Bill's Super Bowl record at New England is a likely Zip for Zip.
Too many cooks ...?

Nebraska's Matt Ruhle's record in big and B1G games is right there with James Franklin's. With one of the easiest schedules in and out of the conference in 2025, he'd best win now.

A Deep Dive Into SC in 2025. If you take the time to read this in-depth article, you have to ask yourself, "Why is Riley still the head coach at SC?" His play calling in 2024 went against SC's strength, rushing the football. Had John McKay been calling plays, SC would have won at least three of the one-score games it lost in 2024.
Riley's recruiting was so bad that recruiting was taken over by AD Jen Cohen, who agreed to pay $1 million per annum to a 'General Manager' brought in from Notre Dame. The only thing Chad Bowden is managing is recruiting, where he is doing a stellar job to date.
Much of Bowden's success is due to Cohen getting SC's NIL collectives organized and stepping up with NIL money, although it seems that SC is overpaying for untested talent.
I think Cohen and SC would be better served by spending the money to bid Riley goodbye. I don't believe Riley has the play-calling chops to hang around as the OC.
Riley finally let go of the Grinch who stole defense, and DC Lynn improved the D. But not much returns on the D side of the ball, and the O-line coming into 2025 is a mess. Many players on the 2024 team are no longer balling in South Central.
I think this Giant will remain somnambulent for as long as Riley's at the helm.
