  1. I am partial to Helfrich.

I've stated before the way he was treated toward the end of his last season was Bush league.

As far as I know he was the only coach to play in Herbert's invitational in Eugene. I could be wrong. But him being there says a lot about his relationship with Justin.

He has short comings, but he served Oregon very well.

He tried to be Kelly 2.0 and got kicked in the walnuts.

Enjoy your millions and your family, Mark!

  2. Receiver had time to brace for impact after not catching the ball. He was defenseless.

Vernon had time to change posture and lower head after the ball whizzed by, as well. Contact was made above the shoulders.  It doesn't even have to be the helmet, but it was.

Both players heads were forcibly bounced to the point their bodies were thrown apart from each other.

Vernon's feet were leaving the turf prior to impact. Looks like launching to me.

The refs did make the right call. They called targeting because McKinley had every chance to not lead with his head but he did. That play is always ruled targeting and there was no hesitation, they threw the flag even Mario pointed Mckinley to the replay screen when he cried that he didnt mean to.

The reasons for overturning the call were never explained, which is convenient. Its nice to see at least some duck fans admitting the obvious: it was targetting.

    It was targeting.

You are incorrect about it always being called. I don't have a specific example, so that's weak sauce, but the calls on the field, after a review, and remotely by the Pac12 are horribly inconsistent.

What is not in dispute is a haymaker thrown at a defenseless player from behind during a dead ball.

  4. The swinging gate is an option play that I believe Kelly installed.

The players called and failed the 2pt options against Nebraska.

After that Helfrich stopped giving the players the option by not calling the swinging gate formation.

Smith called plays an inferior team needs to execute to stay relevant. 1 of 3 2pt conversions, a failed hail Mary, and 1 of 2 onside kicks. They were never closer than 9 pts in the 2nd half.

Once again we gave up 20+ points to the Beavers in the 4th quarter. That is unacceptable in my mind.

And we lost the second half 26-14.....a sign of a team letting up.

Super happy we won, but we just don't seem to have that killer instinct.

The D is beat up. It's unrealistic to expect them to get a 3 and out every series and after an onside kick AND in the 4th quarter.

The Oregon 2nd string D is better than OSU's first string.

I’m pretty sure we would have been better this year with Shough at quarterback. The Ducks’ passing game would have been much improved, able to stretch the field, which would have made the receiving corps more productive, and the running game, the team’s offensive strength, would have been even better.

The way Cristobal handled Shough at the end of last season undermined his confidence and drove him away. Who’s to say that he wouldn’t have come back strong this season. Players who are adequately coached tend to improve. Had he stayed the Ducks, at the very least, would have had a reliable backup - Shough or Brown - to step in when the offense stalled.

I felt the same way. Coaches seemed quick to replace Shough, but seem to refuse to switch it up when Brown struggles.

The Ducks were not the 3rd best team in the FBS.

I believe the CFP committee put them there because of the win in Columbus and they only had 1 loss.

Even Vegas knew better than to favor the Ducks.

    Don't Coug this opportunity Cougars.

Regardless of who loses, I will wear my Sheer Kahn smile because knowing the Huskies lost to the Cougars is just too wonderful, while seeing the Cougars Coug it is almost poetic.

    A tie would be delightful!

One would think maybe Mario would be open to this. He can't think he is a psychologist as well as a coach.

I know OSU under Riley had a guy come in as kind of a sports psychologist from Bend. He was part-time, but worked with the team. Many teams have a somebody come in from time to time. Even bringing in 'The Rock' to fire up the team would be a start.

This would be a very shrewd step and needed, in my opinion.

Someday that guy might be Justin Herbert.

Thank you for the gift of a free and ad free site!!  It's almost unheard of these days.

  11. I like the Platypus bowl. It's funny and light hearted.

Otherwise, a Rose is a Rose. It's a civil war.

The other thread in the article is about paying players. I'm tempted to start a GoFundMe to pay each player of the winning team only. 🤔

    Go Ducks
