  1. For those who attended U of O, the documentary shows the iconic buildings that are on campus, and the cost to build. Inflation is real.

Since this is classified as a Recruitment film, thank goodness marketing has improved over the years. However, the fly over footage of the campus was probably cutting edge back then.

  2. Since you asked for a topic…this one is sports related.

These guys run time trials on these types of runs.

As someone who casually rode bikes, and motorcycles, I am amazed at the athletes in these sports.  You lose focus for one moment and life flight will be your next ride.

  3. Not a fan of the idea of playing any other team in the spring. A meaningless game against a team that would love to put a big hit on key players doesn’t make a lot of sense.

The spring game allows the local fans to see the young players at Autzen for a scrimmage. Looks like a fun afternoon if I lived in Eugene.

Most fans know what our veteran players are capable of doing.

I will watch the game televised, but just not compelled to drive +4 hours in heavy traffic, for a scrimmage against anybody.

  4. Man, I thought I was skinny in college. I was a 5’11” 175lbs lean mean fighting machine as a sophomore.

A QB that is 6’3” and 180 will need to be elusive against the Ducks pass rush to survive this game. One of our strengths on paper looks to be our ability to pressure the QB.

The Bobcats deserve respect, but an opener against the Ducks at Autzen is not ideal for any brand new QB.

  5. A month off during the holidays and the seeding of the playoff format played a significant role in OBD demise.

The Ducks shook off the cobwebs of inactivity by the 2nd half, but by then, it was already over.

Virtually every college football analyst agreed that Oregon’s path to a championship game was the most difficult.

By losing the BIG Championship, Penn State arguably ends up with the easiest path to the Championship game. Anytime losing a game becomes a more favorable option seems wrong.

  6. The D-line always determines much of our success on defense. DT’s like Haloti Ngata are not the norm, but are always high on my wish list.

I think our DT’s determine how good we are this year on defense. Our DB’s are a big question mark this year, and the DT’s will help by playing solid football.

I really don’t have a good feel for us defensively. I think allowing an average of 20 points wins a lot of games. Assuming that we average 35 to 40 on offense.

  7. Ducks offense will be just fine.

We all have questions about filling player positions that have been vacated. That is part of what makes college football so entertaining. It will take time playing together for the new players to gel as a team.

Remember our start last year? That was some ugly football.

I once again expect that they will struggle, and get better as the season goes on.

  8. The Matt probably would not have happened without our influential boosters. For financing they were forced to build a multi-purpose arena that could generate revenue outside of basketball. They overstated the potential revenue, and got the needed financing.

Without a multi -purpose arena they would never have received the financing, and not many of us can influence the State to lend us the money required. There is more to building and financing these deals then making all the fans happy.

The alternative was to have our alumni raise substantially more money.

So maybe they gave us a mini-van instead of the sports car that was wanted. I am not complaining.

  9. I enjoy basketball, but most of the Duck fan base that live in the Portland metro area wont buy season tickets. Season ticket holders are really the backbone of attendance numbers.

Driving at night in winter conditions takes away the appeal of attending games regularly.

When they put in the proposed Cascadia high-speed rail project between Seattle and Eugene, that will be a game changer.

Transportation officials also proposed a new bridge over the Columbia river 35 years ago, and are finally expecting to start construction in 2026.

The wheels of progress turn rather slowly.

  10. Dante appears to be an NFL style drop back QB. He has apparently been impressive in practice, but needs to regain his confidence as “the guy” in an actual game.

I think our QB’s can all be productive, but everyone will find out who will shine after 4 or 5 games.

They all need experience, and while practice is important, nothing replaces the pressure of a tightly contested game.

  11. I guess that change is inevitable.

The transfer portal does need better oversight, but interfering with a players ability to transfer may have legal repercussions.

In my opinion, only when there is a player tampering case that actually carries substantial penalties, will things change.  Losing a player to another team strictly because of NIL, or playing opportunities, is not tampering.

Some coaches may accuse others of tampering, but it seems they will need substantial evidence to bring forth a legitimate complaint.

  12. On 12/27/2024 at 10:35 AM, Grandpa Duck said:

The point spread is based on the expectation of how many bettors will put down money for a particular team.  OBD having a smaller fan base will garner fewer bets.  This opinion comes from a source who has never made a bet through a sports book.

It is all about the betting cash flow.

However, most of the bets will be from non-Duck/tosu fans that lay action on these games. It is virtually a pick-em game between the two teams.

Odds makers are in cahoots with the sports books, and set odds/monellines that will profit the sports books. The moneyline is approximately -132 tosu, and +115 for the Ducks. Add the implied winning probabilities together and it is approximately 104%.
