  1. Is this subject ever going to stop?  Oregon is going to stay right where it is at least for the foreseeable future.  If the prediction that due to NIL the future is super conferences then the Ducks will obviously be part of one of those teams.  It's predicted by some so called experts that this will occur around the 2030 time period, we shall see.  For what it's worth in my opinion Oregon is much better off in the Pac than going to the Big 10 which is dominated by Ohio State and to a lesser extent Michigan and Penn State.

USC alums (who are notorious poor sports) are going to be very very unhappy campers when they finally realize that the Trojans are for the most part also rans in the Big 10.  Oregon, with major bowl money which I think is going to be somewhat regular will be close in income, and along with Washington will dominate the Pac.

  2. A lady who is caring for a friend of mine's wife supposedly has committed to Texas A&M.  She is leaving her job because her son is supposedly committed and A&M is getting jobs for she and her husband down there, and they are going to pay their son $100,000 for committing to A&M.  He is from San Diego and attended Lincoln High.  He is a friend of the 2 Jalill that went to Oregon one looks good for next year and the other has transferred to San Diego St.  He supposedly was going to visit the Ducks at the end of June.

I can find no commitment on the A&M site, nor any commitment from a DB from California on the A&M site. Can't find any info. on the Ducks bringing him in for a visit.  I've heard of some crummy deals that A&M has pulled in the past.  I don't know his name, will find out on Wednesday, but regardless there is no info that I can find that would fit this kid.

  3. Jon, I think you are right on when you discuss 3 super conferences, I know that there is a lot of talk regarding just two, but you may be correct.

I don't think you're correct about Notre Dame.  I went to the only high school the Holy Cross Order had in the country.  Was supposed to go to ND, but always wanted to be a Duck.

I know a lot of the priests at ND, have a lot of family as well as friends who are ND alums and some significant donors.  Joining a conference for football would be something that is repulsive to most ND alums, I just don't see it.  Also I don't see WSU and OSU surviving as well as schools like Wake Forest and Pitt.  I hope you are correct, because I don't think that schools that are not in a super conference will be able to financially afford to field football teams.

The super conferences, 2, or 3 will suck up all the TV monies.

  5. This guy Klatt is an idiot in my opinion.  It is not the Golden age of collegiate football.  NIL and the portal policies are destroying college sports.  if congress can legal put controls in it will save collegiate sports as we know them, otherwise in the not to distant future collegiate football will shrink down to around 40 teams.  Who will be damaged the most with almost 100 teams dropping football because of the loss of TV income and much more, your going to see around 8500 scholarships disappear and most of those losing out will be minorities.

  6. One of my very good friends who died a few years ago, has a daughter who took a run at buying the Guard, has gone into the newspaper business with a group, would not be a bit surprised if they end up with the Guard and maybe Salem to.  They are doing very well with the papers they have acquired recently.

  7. Will this happen, probably sometime in the future 8 to 10 years from now when college football is down to 2 super conferences.  Will the Pac 12 expand yes by at least 2 teams to begin with.  Is Oregon staying put bad for the program, somewhat, but we have a donor who is bound and determined that we are going to win a national championship in football and will do what it takes to make that happen.  We will see some creative things happen over the next few years, some that have not even been mentioned yet.  I can see a possible major relationship with the ACC on the horizon (who has a similar problem)

The NIL issue as well as the transfer problem hopefully will be addressed, but if there is not a satisfactory answer to these issues then only the programs with solid financial backing will exist.  You can talk all you want about Big10's TV money, but it's the NIL money in the long run.

For the future the Ducks will be fine, and we will have to get used to a conference that will be dominated by Oregon, Washington and Utah.

  8. This happening now, not a chance.  5 years down the line, probably to soon, but in the next 10 years when college football shrinks down to 2 super conferences yes, and Stanford will also be included.  Of course that will be the end of college sports as we know it unfortunately.  The only hope for college sports is congress acting in some way and I don't see that happening.

  9. Oregon and Washington will not be offered to become members of the Big 10 this year, or in the near future.  Unfortunately the comments regarding 2 megaconfernces are correct, I would hope they are wrong, but I don't think so.  The 2 conferences will be composed of 20 teams each (most likely).  Oregon and Washington most definitely will be involved, and I would also guess Stanford.  Cal would be questionable unless the administration changes its attitude toward athletics.  You can bet that Florida St., Miami, Clemson, North Carolina, Duke, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kansas State will be involved and a few others.

If the commissioner of the Pac12 can come up with a reasonable TV contract I think Oregon is much better off in the Pac.  I know that the younger members of this group will have a stroke at my next comments, but Oregon's chances of winning a national championship as members of the Big 10 is not going to happen in the near future.  If you look at who has won the conference championship in the last 20 years it's Michigan and Ohio State, once Penn St.  The Ducks may not have the TV revenue that the Big 10 and SEC schools have, but fortunately they have a major donor who will make up a lot of the difference.  I think that Oregon and Washington will dominate the Pac in the future years.  I do feel that the long term outlook for College sports is not good thanks to TV, but unless something drastic happens it's  not going to change.

  10. Great interview, about time they got the credit they deserve.  People don't realize that Kelly's best job prior to Bellotti hiring him was the offensive coordinator at University of New Hampshire.  One of the main reasons that Kelly did as well as he did at Oregon was that he had the good fortune to inherit a heck of a lot of good players that Bellotti recruited, and inherited an excellent coaching staff that Bellotti had put together.  Kelly has been unsuccessful since leaving Oregon and yesterday was a good example.  I don't know any UCLA alum that would not be thrilled to see him gone.

  11. Charles you are 100% correct. Last night I checked some things.  In the last 4 recruiting classes including so far in 2023 Beavs have had one 4 star, Ducks 6 % stars and 44 4 stars.  Oregon DB's don't look nearly as good on the field as the Beavs.  I do think the Duck DL's do a great job, but so do the Beavs.  The last game of the season is going to be tough particularly in Corn Valley.

In conclusion I think that Smith has put together an excellent coaching staff, particularly those working with the DB's
