Next week at Autzen Stadium will feature a battle royale between two reigning conference champions in what is shaping up to be the game of the year so far in college football. The defending champions of The BIG welcome in the defending champions of The Pac It Up in the ultimate battle of conference superiority. With such an epic battle of undisputed football dominance, Game Day must have had this showdown penciled in from the moment it was announced.

Agree that Moore was pulled a little too early.
Whole team looked pretty meh all game.
Props to the Wild Cats who seemed much more fired up.
I think the Ducks showed up with a just take care of business mentality and it showed. Lanning will have plenty of things to see on film to work on.
I’m hoping both lines getting pushed around was more meh than signs of trouble.

Oregon may indeed be the best team in the country and it may not even be close. They may also have the easiest first four game schedule in the history of football. Those two things combined make accessing this team difficult. They are so deep on offense, they can spread around the receptions and rushes to their entire roster throughout the game. There is no need to lean on any one player at any position so nobody is going to accumulate the stats that will send them to the top of the charts. Even our sensational QB won't be able to accumulate that many passing yards because the games will be so blown out early, passing won't even be needed after halftime.
The defense also looks all world at every position but every offense they play up till PSU is only offensive to the word offense. No offense to the first four teams but no offense is their problem. I'm loving what I'm seeing as they do appear to be the best team in the nation, we just have to wait until game five to see it against a team with a pulse. UCLA, OSU and OSU would all kill to have our fourth string start for them.

The economics game has two separate aspects of success. Your share of the pie and the size of the pie. Most people focus on their share of the pie which is the greedy aspect. Mine! Mine! Mine! I think the more important aspect is the size of the pie. This requires working together to build interest the most interest in the product to generate the most revenue. Weather it's pop music, auto sales or sports, consumer interest in the product needs to come before which brand of product people prefer.
I've said this many times before on many threads but without the enthusiasm of the Northwesterns, Wake Forests and Texas Techs out there, the pie will shrink which will lower the value per piece down the road.
Without scrappy underdog upsets or TCUs rising up to championship games periodically, the average fan will tune out and just watch the NFL. March Madness understands this and that's why college basketball has the best playoff format around. Every team in the country has a chance to make a deep run in any given year. Before the 80's the same eight teams basically played each other every year which is why UCLA won so many championships in a row.
The ACC adopted the inequal pie slice model to keep their conference together but where would Ohio St go? The SEC? Does USC pull the same move next? Grow the pie and everybody eats. Hog the pie and watch it disappear.

To paraphrase ZZ Top:
They have depth and they know how to use it. I only see a couple games on the schedule that they may want to ride the 1s and 2s most of the game. Outside of redshirt considerations, the 3s and 4s should still see plenty of playing time.
The drop off from 1 to 2 or 2 to 3 is unbelievably small. What a time to be a Duck fan.

Wow. That let it rip mentally is dangerous. I think he’s telling his team he believes they’ve arrived and just go out there and get it done.
The blocking in this game was insane. They were driving guys back thirty, forty yards on the long plays. This team looks motivated. Lanning looks possessed. What a lucky fan base we are.

Continuing FGD’s theme from above, I feel the competition for playing time this year is real. The guys that are the 1s seem to have the focus of knowing how close the 2s are. The 2s seem to know the 3s are right on their heels as well.
If Mariota’s ‘14 team had anything close to this amount of depth, they win the Natty. Still a long way to go of course and the competition hasn’t been stellar but this does feel different.

I’m surprised that FSU didn’t move at all after walloping Bama. Do the Carolina Bills drop into the bottom ten?

Great article. I had an interesting conversation with a Bobcats fan at a restaurant post game. I told him I thought they actually looked pretty good as they didn’t really have many breakdowns and give up huge chunk or game changers minus the punt blocks.
I told him the reason for the lop sided score was more due to the Ducks simply winning one play after another on both sides of the ball. Four and five star guys doing four and five star things all day long will do that.
This game reminded me a lot of the Georgia game for the same reasons. It really felt like nearly every player deserved MVP for how solid they all played throughout the game.
Montana St looked like a well coached and disciplined team that ran into another well coached and disciplined team with much more fire power. No shame in that.
I think this may be the beginning of a special season.

There should be a base metric for opponent win percentage involved. If it is just based on rankings then the SEC beating it’s own over ranked teams will always inflate it’s own rankings.
Official rankings should also have nothing to do with pre or early season rankings for the same reasons. If your entire conference is all preseason ranked them somebody will always be beating a ranked team. By seasons end those early season ranked wins won’t mean much if those loosing teams fade throughout the season.

Hey Gat sorry about your Gators. If the wheels fall off the Gator wagon this year, I would bet you end up with Will Stein as your coach.
