The debate right now is about who controls the board. When USC and UCLA declared their leaving they lost their voting rights on the board. Same happened when Colorado declared they were leaving.

So OSU and WSU are saying they are the only two members on the board with voting rights based on what has happened before. While everyone else is saying... that was before everyone else opted to leave the conference and everyone is a full member of the conference until the summer.

The lawsuit about control initially went the way of OSU and WSU but it is going to an appeals court and the court has put a pause on the previous ruling. So we'll have to wait and see how these things work out.

In short.. OSU and WSU want every dime they possibly can get. There are lots of revenues that will be distributed throughout the year as teams that make the playoff, significant bowl games, or the college basketball tournaments and so forth generate revenue that is split across the conference. OSU and WSU say they should get all those that are left over in the conference.

Everyone else says that those should be evenly distributed and all other major assesses liquidated and those revenues distributed as well (such as the Pac-12 network).

Still not too bright but more enlightened than I was.  Thanks

  2. That was not a pretty game but it sure is a better way to start off the season than last year.  It usually takes Utah's o-line a few games to start opening holes so if the Utes can get past Baylor I think they will be in good shape come conference time.  I saw a few guys playing who didn't even show up on the depth chart.  In the end, 1-0 is a lot nicer to look at than 0-1.

Savage...I think the Utes can do really well in the Big-12, and I too am very sorry with how this has transpired.  Fans like you have been fun on this board, and you are always welcome, regardless of conference.

Thank you.  I won't be going anywhere.  With all that has happened I think this season is going to be a bigger dog fight than ever.  Who doesn't want to be the final  "Pac 12 as we know it" champ and go into the new adventure with some momentum.  OSU, WSU and the others are going to be motivated to kick some booty almost every week just like most folks wanted to do to SoCal last year.  Lots to look forward too this year and in the future. Just hope the guys left behind find a desirable landing zone.

  4. I am relieved Utah got a landing spot but I do not like what has happened to the PAC.  I am not a fan of the conferences being so big. When you play half or less than half of the other teams it just doesn't seem appealing.  After this coming season will Utah ever play any of the Oregon, Washington or California schools again?  Are any of them interested in playing the Utes again?  Who knows.

I have no problem with the Utes in the Big 12.  Before they joined the PAC the PAC and the Big 12 were the "power conferences" I rooted for. I am also looking forward to playing BYU yearly again and possibly having something at stake from the result.  I am also interested in playing the Big 12 teams, always have been.

I wish the last four PAC teams could find a comparable situation but at the same time don't want the newly expanded conferences to grow any more.  I think they are already unwieldy enough in their new configurations.

Savagefund...where do Utah fans sit with all of this?

I can't really speak for the group.  My first desire is for the PAC to survive.  Not having a strong conference based in the west doesn't sit well with me.  If there is an implosion and this four team invitation happens I would love it if Utah could replace Cal in the invite.  But...fat chance.  I think it would be great for you guys to go if there is no hope for the PAC but I would miss games against Oregon.  I think there has been momentum for a bit of a rivalry between the two of us.

I like Big 12 as an option better than a half PAC half MW.  I would love to see the Utah - BYU rivalry be reignited.  I don't enjoy the back and forth insults but I do enjoy the intensity of that game and build up around it.   Sports radio talk around here mostly is focused on the Big 12 but some are pushing a B1G possibility.

  6. I was looking on a B1G message board about this subject.  Not all are in favor of Oregon joining up. The below post from that site seems pretty silly to me.

"don't give a damn as long as none of them come to the B1G with the exception of Stanford. That's the only school from the dead Pac that potentially adds anything at all to the B1G and doesn't hurt the B1G. Adding Washington adds literally nothing and adding Oregon actually just hurts the B1G helmet brands like OSU, M, PSU, USC. A weakened Oregon in a subpar conference that eventually falls back to the wayside and in their rightful place as a back water is only a good thing for the B1G. Giving Oregon a lifeline and adding them to the B1G would be a disaster."

The whole thread in general seems to show a lot of western geographical ignorance.  The website is cfb51.com/big-ten just in case you have nothing else to do.

I still have traditional cable (and PrimeTV, and all the other streaming services except for Disney+) and I find it a nuisance to watch NFL Thursday Night Football on the streaming app. Is it too much for me to take the 20-40 seconds to switch from the stream back to cable when there is no live action?

Yes, absolutely. I like cable, and I like channel surfing. Honestly, I find myself on Thursday evenings at 7pm wondering what to watch, and I invariably say, "crap, Thursday Night Football is on, and started two hours ago!" If it were on a  national broadcast or on ESPN I would have not missed kickoff.

So, you can count me in on the anti-streaming crowd for live sports. I mean, go ahead and ALSO put it there, just make sure it's on a national broadcast or ESPN/FS1.

Spot on.  Streaming makes channel surfing a giant pain and I am one of those guys.
