  1. "No" to retiring any number. If we retire Mariota's number there are a couple others in the history of the Ducks we should retire. There are only 10 single digit numbers available, 0-9, and they are highly coveted by the players. What are we going to do after we retire half of them???

Ducks sports is just beginning to take off. There will be a lot more worthy "retirees" in the future. Let's just keep it simple.

  2. One thing that I think that they got right: The Rose Bowl was the de facto National Championship Game.

The fact that the anOSU ran over the Ducks in that game does not mean that the Ducks were not #2. Look at what happened in the Super Bowl...   Did KC deserve to be in that game? Of course they did... but it looked very similar to the Rose Bowl. Kansas City was completely overmatched in that one game.

Anything can happen when you have to play the game.

The test will be his command of the offense and decision making.

Amen: Decision-making is what separates QBs in my opinion.  They all have talent, but when to throw and where....

...and learning to read defenses,,, an extremely important part of making good decisions.

Samples is in an incredible negotiating position. He's getting a pay raise for sure and probably a title bump too.

I'm sure his agent is pushing his name everywhere he can.

I feel Lanning is going to want to keep Samples but it will come with a steep price tag.

This seems kind of funny because, when DL hired Samples, a whole lot of people questioned the decision. Now Samples seems to be a very hot commodity.

  5. WS is young and still learning.  So is DL. Nobody expects a guy to be a well seasoned veteran after two years on the job.

This year the Ducks went 12-0 in the regular season and 1-1 in the post season. We finished the season with more wins than the National Champions --- and one of those wins was against the National Champions. That is a pretty satisfying season.

Next year DL will be a little better and so will Will.

I'm sure glad we have them both.

  6. DL's defense has been evolving since day one and still is. The players he had in year one were no where close to being able to execute what DL wanted to install.

"Out with the old, in with the new." Year two we saw a huge turnover in personnel on defense, and a little more in year 3. Most of the high schoolers that DL has recruited over the last 3 years have yet to see any meaningful game time.  Several of those will likely never see the field, as Dan is trying to find those who fit.

I believe that we will not really see the defense that Dan envisions until year 5 or 6... maybe even year 7.

Until then, I am going to continue to enjoy the ride... and the steady improvements in all three phases of the Ducks' game.

He's not saying we were pumping in crowd noise, he's just saying it was so loud it felt like Oregon was pumping in crowd noise, give him some credit, that's what I took from it.

Agree. To me he was saying that it was so loud it was unbelievable (¿How could it be that loud without pumping in noise? - yet it was.)

Maybe someone in the B1G will start believing that Autzen noise can actually affect the play on the field. I think the coaches are starting to think about it.
