I hear you, and if this uniform generates more interest among Blue Chip recruits, I'm all for it. At 52 years old, I am much older than the target audience for these uniforms. And I love my ducks, and will cheer for them just as loudly regardless of what they are wearing.

It reminds me of the time when my mom let me wear my Star Trek pajamas to school in first grade. She told me it wasn't a good idea, but she fully supported me, so she let me.

  2. To be honest, I don't want the Ducks to be in the playoffs this year. We're not good enough yet to beat teams like Alabama or Georgia. I'd rather we go to the Pac-12 championship and then continue to build from there. When we eventually go to the playoffs, I want us to be able to win, rather than seemingly provide more evidence that Oregon is overrated and the Pac-12 is soft.

Ha, I’ve considered it. I’ve made footnotes (did not show in this version) showing altered metrics for years where a key player was injured (ie, Herbert and Dixon), but I generally don’t alter the raw, complete data due to thorough butt-kickings from superior teams.

I can alter the data to show only performance against P12 competition.

I’m hesitant to show a bunch of different versions of this. Not sure how much the OBD likes it. I’m a data nerd, so I love this stuff.

But I also realize it’s not the easiest thing to view on a phone. On a Desktop computer it’s wonderful viewing.

I'd personally love to see stats with the Georgia game omitted if you're up for it. That game was an absolute outlier-- essentially playing an away game against what again looks to be the best college team in the country, with a newly installed coaching staff, new offensive and defensive schemes, and new players...... and therefore a steep learning curve. I think such adjusted stats would give us a better picture of how we stack up against teams who aren't immortal.

  4. After the last couple of games, I'm starting to feel some of that cocky optimism I had back during the Mariota days. Kind of feeling like the Ducks can do just about anything (ahem, except beat Georgia or Alabama). That part of me, along with Stanford's injuries and the game being at Autzen, is predicting an Oregon blowout. And....... then there's that rocky history with Stanford.

In some ways it might have been better if he didn't score... as Oregon could kill the clock and not even give WSU a chance at a last gasp of life.

But in truth I feel the Pick-six was needed from a moral standpoint more than anything.

I think you're right about the moral victory, not only for the defense and the team, but also for Mase Funa. How often does a defensive lineman get a pick 6? Let the hard-working man enjoy his spoils.

  6. The man is a leader, and he's experienced at reading defenses and managing offenses. He quickly rebounds from adversity,  has some great skills, and has shown that even somewhat old dogs can learn new tricks. I didn't expect most of this at the beginning of the season, but if he continues to play this way and help teach the younger quarterbacks on the roster how to do likewise, I think I'd be crazy not to want him to play next year.

  7. I remember that 1980 Portland State team that held the record of 105 points. Neil Lomax was the quarterback. The son of close family friends, Aaron Bell, was the backup quarterback. To my recollection, he never got to play in a game, because coach Mouse Davis was either trying to successfully drum up attention from NFL scouts, beef up his own resume, or both.

  8. Thanks for this great analysis. You raise my football IQ several points with every article you write. I'm guessing Dillingham will see the flaws in his game plan just like you did after watching tape and reflecting on the game, and part of me wonders if he was being perhaps overly cautious about Bo Nix extending his legacy of forcing pass plays  If he doesn't adjust appropriately in future games........ are you up for being Oregon's new offensive coordinator next year?

  9. I don't get the referees decision to reset the down count for Washington State after they punted the first time. It was first down, the quarterback threw the ball out of bounds under pressure, so it would have naturally been second and 10. He was then penalized with intentional grounding, with the penalty being loss of down. That would make it 3rd and 10. If it doesn't, that would mean there was no penalty for intentional grounding.

Cold day in hell I pull for a CA team over one from Oregon.

I actually grew up in the Willamette Valley for 16 years before my dad was transferred to Southern California and I ended up going to UCLA. Long story short, it's a lot easier to be nostalgic about growing up in the Willamette Valley than it is to be nostalgic about living in Los Angeles for 4 years. I would root for UCLA in the past ( and sometimes USC, where my dad graduated from) when they weren't playing the Ducks or the Beavers.  But since USC and UCLA decided to covertly betray tradition for profit by announcing they're switching conferences......... no quarter, no prisoners!

  11. A hopefully helpful tip:  to access the " Mark forum as read" button using Chrome on an Android tablet or phone, click the "hamburger icon" ( the three horizontal black line stacked on top of each other) in the upper left corner of the web page, and then click the "Mark site read" option. The "Mark forum read" button doesn't appear on either of my Android devices as displayed in the tutorial.

Thanks for the heads up regarding the new reading marks option, Charles!

  12. I recall many in the media (and beyond) initially doubting the leadership abilities of Mariota and Herbert.  They were 'too quiet, 'too soft spoken'.  Most of us don't learn how to lead until we are repeatedly put into a leadership position.  I bet Ty will grow into a leader given some time.
