Troy Franklin breaks all-time Oregon receiving touchdown record vs. Oregon State

Last week against Arizona State, it seemed like Oregon Ducks records were just lining up to be broken.

Camden Lewis became Oregon’s all-time leading scorer, Bo Nix tied the record for most TDs by a Ducks QB, and Troy Franklin broke the Oregon record for receiving yards in a single season.

But, Troy Franklin wasn’t quite done making history after last week. This Saturday against the Oregon State Beavers, Troy Franklin caught his 25th receiving touchdown as a Duck to gain sole possession of the Oregon record for career receiving touchdowns.

The touchdown came at the end of the second quarter on a 41-yard cross-body throw from Bo Nix. Franklin caught the pass around the 10-yard line, turned, and outran his defender to the pylon. The catch capped off a five-play, 78-yard drive that took only 40 seconds off the clock.

Before this weekend, there was a five-way tie for the Oregon record of 24 TDs held by, Cristin McLemore, Keenan Howry, Jeff Maehl, Josh Huff,

and Franklin.

With his touchdown today, Franklin stands alone atop that list and further has cemented himself as the best Ducks receiver ever.

Watch: Oregon Ducks’ Bo Nix throws incredible TD pass against the Oregon State Beavers

Bo Nix may have secured the Heisman Trophy by making an incredible play Friday night. The Oregon Ducks’ quarterback, already one of the leading contenders for the award, provided a highlight against the Oregon State Beavers.

Nix, facing a second-and-10 at the Beavers’ 41 with just eight seconds remaining in the first half, was flushed out of the pocket and sprinted to his right.

He threw across his body to the left toward the center of the field - usually a big no-no - but his pass found wide receiver Troy Franklin at the 15.

Franklin easily broke the tackle attempt by Beavers’ defensive back Ryan Cooper Jr. and waltzed into the end zone.

No. 6 Oregon crushes No. 16 Oregon St. for spot in Pac-12 title game

Heisman Trophy candidate Bo Nix completed 33 of 40 passes for 367 yards with a pair of touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown, and the No. 6 Oregon Ducks had much to celebrate on their home field in Eugene, Ore., after their 31-7 win over No. 16 Oregon State.

The game could mark the Ducks’ final rivalry game against the Beavers for some time, gives them a spot in the last Pac-12 Championship game, and furthers their bid for a place in the College Football Playoff.

Oregon (11-1) won its sixth straight game and finished 8-1 in the Pac-12.

Oregon State (8-4, 5-4) managed just 273 yards of total offense, including 53 on the ground after what been a successful rushing attack all season.

Oregon’s offense has often been a quick-strike unit this season, but on Friday, the Ducks chewed time off the clock with two lengthy touchdown drives in the first half...

Column: Dan Lanning notches his biggest win, but the stakes only get higher from here on out

When the clock hit zero on Friday night inside Autzen Stadium and both teams started to congregate at the middle of the field, the scoreboard in Eugene flashed “Vegas Bound” in bright yellow letters.

31-7, Oregon Ducks over Oregon State Beavers. Bo Nix and his teammates had just won arguably the biggest game of the season in emphatic fashion, never leaving the outcome in doubt.

From an opening touchdown drive that drained nearly 9 minutes off of the clock, to a last-gasp 4th-down attempt from the Beavers that fell incomplete, the Ducks were in control of this one.

So while fans celebrated their first win over the in-state rivals since 2021, and relished the fact that their team clinched a rematch against the Washington Huskies, many opened up Delta apps to book a flight to Vegas...

12 major takeaways from Ducks 31-7 Civil War blowout over Oregon State

If you really wanted to argue it, nobody would have stopped you from calling Friday night’s matchup between the No. 6 Oregon Ducks and No. 16 Oregon State Beavers the biggest game of Dan Lanning’s young career.

With a spot in the Pac-12 Championship on the line, and a chance to keep College Football Playoff hopes alive, Lanning’s team needed to perform. More so than that, Lanning needed a victory against a rival, something he had yet to accomplish in Eugene.

Fortunately for Duck fans everywhere, all three of those things were checked off in a 31-7 beatdown in Autzen Stadium that left zero doubt when it came to who was the better team.

The reward? Oregon’s second-year head coach now gets to go play the biggest game of his career next week in Las Vegas, with a rematch against the Washington Huskies, the only team to beat the Ducks this season.

While we have several days to dive into that highly enticing game, let’s first take a deeper look at this matchup that could well be the final Civil War we see for quite some time, with no future game currently scheduled.

Here are my biggest takeaways from the evening...

Ducks Wire Player of the Game: Troy Franklin breaks another Oregon record

Troy Franklin has had a season to remember. Before the season, it was hard to imagine him playing better than he did in 2022, but his play this year is miles ahead of last season. On Saturday night, Franklin finished with 9 catches, 128 yards, and a 41-yard TD.

And oh yeah, that touchdown made him the all-time leader in receiving TDs for the Oregon Ducks.

This game was Franklin’s eighth game this season with over a hundred yards receiving (he also had a game with 99 yards).

On the season, Franklin has 1349 yards on 77 catches, plus 14 TDs...

Bo Nix's Autzen Stadium swan song a special one

Oregon quarterback Bo Nix played his final game at Autzen Stadium on Friday night, going out in style with a record-setting performance in the team's 31-7 win over rival OSU.

Friday's 31-7 win over Oregon State will be a hard one to forget. It provided sweet vengeance for last year's debacle in Corvallis, sets up a rematch with rival Washington in Las Vegas next week and keeps all the marbles in play into the month of December.

For Bo Nix, Friday was so much more. It brought the culmination of two historic seasons at Autzen Stadium, and sent the fifth-year senior off with one of the most memorable Senior Days in school history.

In a season full of remarkable performances, Nix brought the A-game to the Civil War rivalry. He completed more than 80 percent of his passes for the fifth time this season, and accumulated more than 350 yards through the air for the fourth straight game.

Those are feats never reached by a Duck before him...

Joe Freeman: As Oregon State Beavers fall to Ducks, a season of uncertainty reaches a painful finish

As Anthony Gould strolled into a makeshift interview tent outside Autzen Stadium on Friday, he had tears in his eyes and a faraway look on his face.

The Oregon State Beavers had just suffered a 31-7 gut punch against the rival Oregon Ducks in a game that was even more lopsided than the scoreboard suggested.

And as the OSU junior wide receiver sat down to speak to reporters afterward, the weight of the moment was visibly heavy, the emotion of the defeat — and the season — noticeably raw.

“We’ve been through a lot this year,” Gould said.

For three months, amid unprecedented uncertainty, the only guarantee for the Beavers was the game in front of them.

A home opener against UC Davis … a Friday night statement meeting against Utah … a visit to Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes … an emotional — and perhaps final — trip to Autzen.

As the outside noise echoed around them, as Oregon State administrators spoke before lawmakers at the Oregon state capitol and university lawyers traveled to rural Washington courtrooms, the Beavers disregarded the distractions and tried to band together for one another.

So Friday was about more than a game for Gould and the No. 16 Beavers.

It was about more than the conclusion of another regular season...

After months of ignoring the outside noise, reality finally arrived for the Beavers on Friday. And it wasn’t pleasant.

Dan Lanning Comments on Status of Oregon Cornerback Jahlil Florence

The Ducks were without one of their top cornerbacks Friday night against the Beavers.

The No. 6 Oregon Ducks defeated the No. 16 Oregon State Beavers 31-7 on Friday night in Eugene.

The win was fueled by another dominant effort from Oregon's defense, even though they were without starting cornerback Jahlil Florence.

After the game, head coach Dan Lanning was asked about how close both Florence and true freshman Rodrick Pleasant were to being able to play against Oregon State.

"Time will tell really on those guys," Lanning said. "But I think that's where it goes back to strength in numbers for us and what that allows us to have.

Guys that can go out there and compete. We had a lot of guys that can perform on our team. When their number's called they're ready to answer that bell."

Rivalry Win Sends Ducks To Title Game

Everything is still in front of the Oregon football team. And now the Ducks have a chance next week to realize two monumental goals in this 2023 football season.

No. 6 Oregon will play for the Pac-12 Championship after wrapping up the fourth 11-win regular season in school history with a 31-7 victory Friday over No. 16 Oregon State, before the fourth-largest crowd in Autzen Stadium history, 59,987 fans.

The Ducks (11-1, 8-1 Pac-12) will play for the conference title next Friday in Las Vegas against the team that handed them their only loss of this season, Washington.

Friday's win not only kept the UO football team in the running for a Pac-12 title, it kept the Ducks in the thick of the College Football Playoff race as well.

Senior quarterback Bo Nix burnished his credentials for the Heisman Trophy by going 33-of-40 for 367 yards and two touchdowns, plus a rushing touchdown, helping Oregon to its sixth straight win.

"I've said all season, we want to be playing our best football at the end of the season," UO coach Dan Lanning said. "We are right now."

Jon Gold: Ducks blowout of No. 16 Beavers proves they are Playoff-ready

This wasn’t a version of the Civil War so much as it was the United States vs. Granada.

This wasn’t a matchup of ranked teams, this was a future Big Ten power vs. a program with no conference at all.

This was inevitably vs. uncertainty, dominance vs. doubt.

Oregon so thoroughly dismantled Oregon State on Friday night, so ruthlessly took the Beavers out of their own game in a 31-7 Ducks win, the question isn’t if Oregon can handle Washington in next Friday’s Pac-12 title game, it whether any team outside or Athens can dance with the Ducks whatsoever.

It’s not fair to say that this one was over in the first 10 minutes. Maybe the first 11.

Oregon went 88 yards and almost 9 minutes for a touchdown on its first possession of the game, forced an unsuccessful 4th-down conversion on Oregon State’s first drive, then went 58 yards on 8 plays to go up 14-0 early in the 2nd quarter.

Just when the Beavers showed some moxie late in the 2nd — driving 80 yards on 25 plays, capped off by a DJ Uiagalelei to Silas Bolden 9-yard score — Oregon responded with a 5-play, 77-yard touchdown drive as Bo Nix found Troy Franklin for the 41-yard touchdown.

And the 2nd half? Forget about it. New verse, same as the first. Pure destruction.

A dozen games into an 11-1 season, the Ducks may have just played their most complete game of the year...

3 takeaways from Oregon's near-flawless win over Oregon State

Oregon left no doubt. The sixth-ranked Ducks never trailed, going wire-to-wire for a 31-7 win over the 16th-ranked Oregon State Beavers Friday night to clinch a spot in the Pac-12 Championship Game.

Oregon gets its rematch with No. 4 Washington.

One win away.

The Ducks agonized over last season’s loss to Oregon State for 12 months.

Teams get into a rivalry game and there can be a tendency to minimize the “extra” that comes with it. Coaches say it’s just another game. Players say they’re treating it like a normal week because that’s what everyone preaches in the meetings.

Not the Ducks. Coach Dan Lanning kicked the week off by saying the game was the Ducks’ Super Bowl. Players put last year’s fourth quarter on a loop in the locker room.

Brandon Dorlus even said he came back for the 2023 season to right a wrong and beat the Beavs. Oregon wanted this football game.

And so the Ducks (11-1, 8-1 Pac-12) went out and took it by the throat.

Ducks defense takes pride in stopping OSU rush attack following last year's fourth quarter

A year after Oregon State ran for 19 straight times, Oregon's rush defense held the Beavers to under 60 yards in a tremendous performance.

Ahead of the Ducks' regular-season finale victory over No. 16 Oregon State, replays of the 2022 matchup echoed throughout the Oregon locker room. It was a quarter that saw Oregon blow a 21-point lead and saw the Beavers run for 19 straight times.

A year ago, Oregon's defense was pulverized repeatedly by the Beavers' talented offensive line and running back combination of Damien Martinez and Deshaun Fenwick.

As 5:40 PM PST rolled around, all of Oregon's offseason efforts to turn itself into a more physically taxing defense would come to fruition.

Oregon State ran multiple play-action passes early on, but Oregon's front seven continued to get through the line and send pressure against DJ Uiagalelei. Ultimately, when the run game got going for the Beavers, Oregon was there to limit any attempt.

Oregon State finished with 53 yards on the ground in 24 attempts. In other words, the Beavers averaged 2.2 yards per carry, the lowest yards per carry since 2019 against Washington and the lowest rushing output of the season by 78 yards.

The total fell 215 yards short of Oregon State's total a season ago, as the Ducks' defense proved itself, yet again, at the highest level in front of a national audience.

Dontae Manning records first career INT in strong fill-in duty showing

Oregon junior cornerback Dontae Manning picked off his first career pass in Saturday's 31-7 win over Oregon State in what his first start of the 2023 season.

With starting corner Jahlil Florence out with injury, junior Dontae Manning made his first start of the season and earned his first career interception in the process.

Florence was rarely out of Manning's thoughts throughout the game. Even though his younger teammate's emergence has meant a smaller role for Manning this season, this one was dedicated to his ailing teammate, he says.

Stock Report: Dontae Manning steps up, while Jordan Burch puts on a clinic

The end of the regular season as come, and if you’re someone who had stock in the Oregon Ducks from the start of the year, then your portfolio is likely looking pretty great right about now.

For the most part, we’ve seen a lot of stocks on the rise, and only a couple that have fallen off from the start of the year.

That was the trend once again on Friday night with the Ducks’ 31-7 win over the Oregon State Beavers, clinching a spot in the Pac-12 Championship Game against the Washington Huskies.

It was another great showing from Bo Nix and the Oregon offense, while the Ducks’ defensive line had one of the best games of the year, holding the Beavers’ vaunted rushing attack to just 53 yards on the ground.

Time to pay some respect to Oregon's defense

A lot can be made out of Oregon’s 31-7 blowout victory over Oregon State on Friday. Quarterback Bo Nix continued his elite level of play like he has all season, but just as impressive was the latest evidence on the dramatic change the Ducks have orchestrated defensively this season.

This game wasn’t a one-off. The Beavers were only able to reach the end zone once, but that has been a common theme for Oregon opponents.

Oregon State is the fourth conference opponent to score 7 or fewer points against the Ducks, with Portland State also held to just a single touchdown and Hawaii to 10 points.

Oregon ranks 7th nationally in allowing just 15.92 points per game -- down from 27.4 last season.

“I think a lot of people gotta start putting respect on the Oregon defense and the front seven,” linebacker Jeffrey Bassa said. “I’m so proud and so grateful for the defensive line that we have. That group is special and they pride themselves on being one of the most physical groups in the nation.”

It isn’t rocket science. Lanning has seen what works in college football. During his time in Athens as the defensive coordinator at Georgia, he helped craft up one of the most dominant collegiate defenses ever seen.

Now Oregon fans get to see what that looks like up close...

Ranking Oregon's top 10 players vs. OSU according to PFF grades

Sitting at the end of the regular season with an 11-1 record, it’s obvious that the Oregon Ducks have played a lot of really good football this season. According to Dan Lanning, though, they’ve only played two complete games.

On the road in a 35-6 win over the Utah Utes, and at home this past week in a 31-7 win over the Oregon State Beavers.

In those games, the Ducks never let up and played a full four quarters from start to finish. It shows, too.

The level of dominance may not have lit up the scoreboard like it did against USC or Colorado, but it was as clear as day that the physicality and toughness were the difference in this blowout.

As you would expect, the player grades from Pro Football Focus were pretty impressive when the victory is this dominant.

Here are the top 10 rated players from the win over Oregon State...

Snap Count Takeaways: Major notes from Oregon's usage report vs. Oregon State

We now have a full regular season under our belts worth of usage reports for the Oregon Ducks, so it’s safe to say that we’ve got a pretty good idea of what the rotation for this team looks like, and how the depth chart formulates behind the starters.

Friday’s game against the Oregon State Beavers wasn’t necessarily a time to get a good look at all of those depth pieces, though it was a resounding victory.

Going forward, it may be until next spring that we see those depth pieces, too, with each game the rest of the way holding more and more meaning, against better and better competition.

That’s not going to stop us from looking at the usage reports and trying to learn something new about the team each week.

Here’s what we found from the snap counts this past week in a 31-7 win over Oregon State...
