Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 2 Share Posted November 25, 2023 Troy Franklin breaks all-time Oregon receiving touchdown record vs. Oregon State Last week against Arizona State, it seemed like Oregon Ducks records were just lining up to be broken. Camden Lewis became Oregon’s all-time leading scorer, Bo Nix tied the record for most TDs by a Ducks QB, and Troy Franklin broke the Oregon record for receiving yards in a single season. But, Troy Franklin wasn’t quite done making history after last week. This Saturday against the Oregon State Beavers, Troy Franklin caught his 25th receiving touchdown as a Duck to gain sole possession of the Oregon record for career receiving touchdowns. The touchdown came at the end of the second quarter on a 41-yard cross-body throw from Bo Nix. Franklin caught the pass around the 10-yard line, turned, and outran his defender to the pylon. The catch capped off a five-play, 78-yard drive that took only 40 seconds off the clock. Before this weekend, there was a five-way tie for the Oregon record of 24 TDs held by, Cristin McLemore, Keenan Howry, Jeff Maehl, Josh Huff, and Franklin. With his touchdown today, Franklin stands alone atop that list and further has cemented himself as the best Ducks receiver ever. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 3 Share Posted November 25, 2023 Watch: Oregon Ducks’ Bo Nix throws incredible TD pass against the Oregon State Beavers Bo Nix may have secured the Heisman Trophy by making an incredible play Friday night. The Oregon Ducks’ quarterback, already one of the leading contenders for the award, provided a highlight against the Oregon State Beavers. Nix, facing a second-and-10 at the Beavers’ 41 with just eight seconds remaining in the first half, was flushed out of the pocket and sprinted to his right. He threw across his body to the left toward the center of the field - usually a big no-no - but his pass found wide receiver Troy Franklin at the 15. Franklin easily broke the tackle attempt by Beavers’ defensive back Ryan Cooper Jr. and waltzed into the end zone. Bo Nix and his teammates had just won arguably the biggest game of the season in emphatic fashion, never leaving the outcome in doubt. With a spot in the Pac-12 Championship on the line, and a chance to keep College Football Playoff hopes alive, Lanning’s team needed to perform. More so than that, Lanning needed a victory against a rival, something he had yet to accomplish in Eugene. Fortunately for Duck fans everywhere, all three of those things were checked off in a 31-7 beatdown in Autzen Stadium that left zero doubt when it came to who was the better team. The reward? Oregon’s second-year head coach now gets to go play the biggest game of his career next week in Las Vegas, with a rematch against the Washington Huskies, the only team to beat the Ducks this season. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 26 Share Posted November 25, 2023 Joe Freeman: As Oregon State Beavers fall to Ducks, a season of uncertainty reaches a painful finish As Anthony Gould strolled into a makeshift interview tent outside Autzen Stadium on Friday, he had tears in his eyes and a faraway look on his face. The Oregon State Beavers had just suffered a 31-7 gut punch against the rival Oregon Ducks in a game that was even more lopsided than the scoreboard suggested. And as the OSU junior wide receiver sat down to speak to reporters afterward, the weight of the moment was visibly heavy, the emotion of the defeat — and the season — noticeably raw. “We’ve been through a lot this year,” Gould said. For three months, amid unprecedented uncertainty, the only guarantee for the Beavers was the game in front of them. A home opener against UC Davis … a Friday night statement meeting against Utah … a visit to Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes … an emotional — and perhaps final — trip to Autzen. As the outside noise echoed around them, as Oregon State administrators spoke before lawmakers at the Oregon state capitol and university lawyers traveled to rural Washington courtrooms, the Beavers disregarded the distractions and tried to band together for one another. So Friday was about more than a game for Gould and the No. 16 Beavers. It was about more than the conclusion of another regular season... The win was fueled by another dominant effort from Oregon's defense, even though they were without starting cornerback Jahlil Florence. And now the Ducks have a chance next week to realize two monumental goals in this 2023 football season. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 30 Share Posted November 25, 2023 Jon Gold: Ducks blowout of No. 16 Beavers proves they are Playoff-ready This wasn’t a version of the Civil War so much as it was the United States vs. Granada. This wasn’t a matchup of ranked teams, this was a future Big Ten power vs. a program with no conference at all. This was inevitably vs. uncertainty, dominance vs. doubt. Oregon so thoroughly dismantled Oregon State on Friday night, so ruthlessly took the Beavers out of their own game in a 31-7 Ducks win, the question isn’t if Oregon can handle Washington in next Friday’s Pac-12 title game, it whether any team outside or Athens can dance with the Ducks whatsoever. It’s not fair to say that this one was over in the first 10 minutes. Maybe the first 11. Oregon went 88 yards and almost 9 minutes for a touchdown on its first possession of the game, forced an unsuccessful 4th-down conversion on Oregon State’s first drive, then went 58 yards on 8 plays to go up 14-0 early in the 2nd quarter. Just when the Beavers showed some moxie late in the 2nd — driving 80 yards on 25 plays, capped off by a DJ Uiagalelei to Silas Bolden 9-yard score — Oregon responded with a 5-play, 77-yard touchdown drive as Bo Nix found Troy Franklin for the 41-yard touchdown. And the 2nd half? Forget about it. New verse, same as the first. Pure destruction. A dozen games into an 11-1 season, the Ducks may have just played their most complete game of the year... Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 32 Share Posted November 25, 2023 Ducks defense takes pride in stopping OSU rush attack following last year's fourth quarter A year after Oregon State ran for 19 straight times, Oregon's rush defense held the Beavers to under 60 yards in a tremendous performance. Ahead of the Ducks' regular-season finale victory over No. 16 Oregon State, replays of the 2022 matchup echoed throughout the Oregon locker room. It was a quarter that saw Oregon blow a 21-point lead and saw the Beavers run for 19 straight times. A year ago, Oregon's defense was pulverized repeatedly by the Beavers' talented offensive line and running back combination of Damien Martinez and Deshaun Fenwick. As 5:40 PM PST rolled around, all of Oregon's offseason efforts to turn itself into a more physically taxing defense would come to fruition. Oregon State ran multiple play-action passes early on, but Oregon's front seven continued to get through the line and send pressure against DJ Uiagalelei. Ultimately, when the run game got going for the Beavers, Oregon was there to limit any attempt. Oregon State finished with 53 yards on the ground in 24 attempts. In other words, the Beavers averaged 2.2 yards per carry, the lowest yards per carry since 2019 against Washington and the lowest rushing output of the season by 78 yards. The total fell 215 yards short of Oregon State's total a season ago, as the Ducks' defense proved itself, yet again, at the highest level in front of a national audience. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 38 Share Posted November 26, 2023 Time to pay some respect to Oregon's defense A lot can be made out of Oregon’s 31-7 blowout victory over Oregon State on Friday. Quarterback Bo Nix continued his elite level of play like he has all season, but just as impressive was the latest evidence on the dramatic change the Ducks have orchestrated defensively this season. This game wasn’t a one-off. The Beavers were only able to reach the end zone once, but that has been a common theme for Oregon opponents. Oregon State is the fourth conference opponent to score 7 or fewer points against the Ducks, with Portland State also held to just a single touchdown and Hawaii to 10 points. Oregon ranks 7th nationally in allowing just 15.92 points per game -- down from 27.4 last season. “I think a lot of people gotta start putting respect on the Oregon defense and the front seven,” linebacker Jeffrey Bassa said. “I’m so proud and so grateful for the defensive line that we have. That group is special and they pride themselves on being one of the most physical groups in the nation.” It isn’t rocket science. Lanning has seen what works in college football. During his time in Athens as the defensive coordinator at Georgia, he helped craft up one of the most dominant collegiate defenses ever seen. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 39 Share Posted November 27, 2023 Ranking Oregon's top 10 players vs. OSU according to PFF grades Sitting at the end of the regular season with an 11-1 record, it’s obvious that the Oregon Ducks have played a lot of really good football this season. According to Dan Lanning, though, they’ve only played two complete games. On the road in a 35-6 win over the Utah Utes, and at home this past week in a 31-7 win over the Oregon State Beavers. In those games, the Ducks never let up and played a full four quarters from start to finish. It shows, too.
