Ducking the Draft: Oregon’s NFL Prospects

Recommended Posts

With the college football regular season ended and bowl games about to begin, many players and fans have already turned their thoughts to next season.

For many players, that means looking for new opportunities at the college level through the transfer portal. For others, it means looking to take the next step and take a shot at the professional ranks.

I will be summarizing the prospects of those players for Oregon who have been rated as probable draft picks.

While there are other players who could enter their names for the draft, many of them are expected to be undrafted free agents and will not be covered in this article...

Oregon football linebacker Jeff Bassa assessing whether to return for senior season, enter NFL draft

Oregon’s starting middle linebacker is assessing whether to return for his senior season or enter the NFL draft.

Jeff Bassa, who has a career-high 63 tackles (2.5 for loss) with an interception and pass breakup entering the Fiesta Bowl, has not decided what he’ll do in 2024.

“As of right now I’m currently in the process of that,” Bassa said. “I have not made a decision. It’s been constant prayer and thoughts, talking with my teammates, talking with people that I love to make the best decision for me.”

Where Bo Nix ranks among the best transfer QBs of all-time

Can you imagine telling Oregon fans back in December of 2021 that Bo Nix, the quarterback they just landed from Auburn out of the transfer portal, would eventually be a Heisman Trophy finalist, and one of the best transfer portal quarterbacks in the history of the sport?

I don’t think many Duck fans would have believed you.

That’s certainly what ended up happening, though, as Nix took over the Oregon offense and set off on a record pace in 2022, only improving his numbers under Will Stein in 2023 and leading the Ducks to the brink of the College Football Playoff.

Now, with only one game remaining in his college career, it’s fair that we look at his standing among the best transfer portal QBs in the history of college football.

There are some big names, for sure, with guys like Joe Burrow, Cam Newton, and Jalen Hurts standing among some of the best. This past week, 247Sports ranked the top 10 of all time.

Here’s where they placed Bo Nix...

Where is the best landing spot for Bo Nix in the 2024 NFL Draft?

It may not have sunk in yet, but Bo Nix’s career at Oregon is finished, and in April he’ll be selected by one of 32 teams to continue his career in the NFL. It seems like the Bo Nix era at Oregon just began, but it will be fun to follow Bo as he continues his journey into the NFL.

With the level of quarterback talent in this year’s class, a first-round selection isn’t guaranteed for Nix, but he is still one of the best prospects in the draft.

On Tuesday, Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus (PFF) listed the best draft prospect for all 32 NFL teams, and he named Nix as the Denver Broncos top prospect.

Sikkema had this to say about the former Ducks QB...

Bucky Irving ranked among best RBs in 2024 NFL Draft

For the 2024 NFL draft, it figures to be a fairly strong year for running backs with the likes of Michigan’s Blake Corum, and Florida State’s Trey Benson — a former Oregon Duck — leading the way.

Among the loaded group is Oregon’s own Bucky Irving, who dramatically helped his draft stock by staying in Eugene for the 2023 season.

He was pretty good at Minnesota for the first of his college career, but once Irving stepped on the field as a Duck, his career went upward.

The analytical site PFF.com had to say this about the Oregon tailback...

DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM

Pro Football Focus says Bucky Irving is one of the top tailbacks available in the NFL draft in a strong 2023 running back class.

Four players that are getting some press but not a whole lotta love over other players of similar positions ARE going to be viewed as "steals" in the draft come next year's NFL season.

Bo "dacious" Nix

Bucky "Bruiser" Irving

Tony "Touchdown" Franklin

And of course ...  Jackson "Power" Johnson

I believe all four will be immediate starters and impact players that talking heads will be fawning over come mid season next year!  Further solidifying Oregon Football as The perfect team to fine tune and develop your craft under.

Can only help the program in the long run!  Go 🦆's!

Bucky Irving ranked as the No. 4 RB heading into 2024 NFL Draft

Former Oregon running back Bucky Irving put together two outstanding seasons as the Ducks' primary ball carrier, posting over 1,000 yards on the ground after his transfer from Minnesota.

Irving, a former four-star recruit, saw his profile emerge as one of the best backs in the country in his first year with offensive coordinator and now Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham, using him and Noah Whittington out of the backfield as pass catchers and traditional running backs.

In 2022, Irving ran for 1,058 yards with five touchdowns, adding 299 yards on 31 receptions and three more touchdowns courtesy of Bo Nix's passes. Irving finished the year with an All-Pac-12 honorable mention and finished third in the program's history for yards per carry, averaging 6.78...

Oregon WR Troy Franklin tabbed as first round pick in ESPN's latest mock draft

Oregon Football set to hold its Pro Day on March 12

Oregon is set to hold its NFL Pro Day in mid-March, DuckTerritory.com has learned, confirming ESPN's Field Yates' report on the event.

The event will be held on March 12 with a list of participants set to be announced at a later date. As has been the case for many years, the event will be held on the indoor practice turf inside the Moshofsky Center.

It's all but assured that the program's top NFL Draft prospects will be present for the day's events. That would include star quarterback Bo Nix, running back Bucky Irving, wide receiver Troy Franklin, offensive lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson, defensive lineman Brandon Dorlus and cornerback Khyree Jackson, while also providing players with less clear draft futures a chance to improve their stock too.

The school's Pro Day will take place about a week following the conclusion of the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, which runs from Feb. 29 through March 3 this year...
