With Dan Lanning emphasizing on Thursday that growth, intensity, and improvement were going to be things that were stressed from Day 1 to Day 2, it was clear that this team was ready to work and eager to get after it.

Oregon DC Tosh Lupoi talks defensive physicality and veteran experience

While the offensive side of the ball on the Oregon Ducks’ roster is looking to replace some of their most productive players in recent memory this offseason, the same can’t quite be said about the defense. Players like Brandon Dorlus, Khyree Jackson, and Evan Williams are leaving, for sure, but defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi has a bunch of his most impactful pieces returning in 2024.

Guys like Jordan Burch, Jeffrey Bassa, and Jestin Jacobs are leading the charge into this new season, which gives the defense a veteran group out in front.

On Saturday after the Ducks’ second spring practice of the year, we got a chance to talk to Lupoi for the first time this year. Here are some of the most notable quotes from that interview:

Jurrion Dickey is living up to expectations as Ducks' spring practice begins

the Ducks aren’t lacking for talent in the WR room, with guys like Tez Johnson, Traeshon Holden, Gary Bryant Jr., and Evan Stewart all looking to take over as the No. 1 option in 2024. However, it may be a player who is not currently a projected starter, and who only has one catch on his resume that could make the biggest impact going forward.

Redshirt freshman Jurrion Dickey is ready to become a household name.

Kenyon Sadiq could prove to be a 'matchup nightmare' for teams in 2024

The Oregon Ducks football team will miss some of the players who played their last game in 2023. But with all teams, the Ducks have some up-and-comers who are anxious and ready to make their own mark in the program.

Oregon has many young players who have the talent to make sure there’s no dropoff in 2024. One player in particular, tight end Kenyon Sadiq, makes offensive coordinator Will Stein excited for the present and the future.

“Kenyon has had a great camp so far in just two practices. He’s another guy who is a matchup nightmare with his speed in the slot,” Stein said. “You can line him up all over the field. It’ll be fun for me this year to try and get everyone the ball. It’s a good problem to have.”

Ranking Oregon's incoming transfers by expected impact in 2024 season

While the past week has been filled with a lot of basketball content while Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks finished up the winter quarter and went through final exams ahead of spring break, it’s now time to dive back into the world of college football.

While the Ducks remain away on spring break this week, they will soon return to campus and resume spring football throughout the month of April, leading up to the annual spring game on April 27th.

The return of practices should also bring the arrival of several transfers who we expect to join the team for the new quarter, including Jabbar Muhammad, Evan Stewart, and Brandon Johnson.

A projection of which transfers are going to have the biggest impacts for the Oregon Ducks in the 2024 football season.

Now we officially know the days that Oregon will be taking the field in Eugene.

Here is a look at the practice dates for the Ducks this spring:

Practice #5 Tuesday April 4
Practice #6 Thursday April 6
Practice #7 Saturday April 8

10 Ducks who have the most to prove during Oregon's spring football season

At the moment, I have the Ducks listed at 90 scholarships at the end of March, meaning that there will be some roster attrition over the coming months before the regular season. Where will that attrition come from? It’s difficult to say right now, but we know that over the coming weeks, some tough decisions will be made about certain players.

So whether it’s someone fighting for a starting spot, or working to secure a scholarship, these are the players who we feel have the most to prove this spring in Eugene.

Roster attrition is coming for the Oregon Ducks. Here’s who has the most to prove during the spring season in 2024.
