Chuc007 No. 1 Share Posted May 22 (I had a tech issue and could not add to the thread, so here is my take) A lot to agree about regarding coaching history, but these modern coaches-- when they arrived, the Oregon brand and Phil Knight were already impacted by the presence of Ducks long before them. For my money, I'm old but not as old as Whitty, The man who started it all in the modern era was as earlier put, Len Casanova Norm Van Brocklin and George Shaw came before him creating some Oregon buzz, but it was Len Casanova's coaching tree that spread the word "OREGON" throughout the football world. Not only did the injury riddled Liberty Bowl team of 1962 have 5 or 6 starting NFLers on the team, but also 2 great Pro hall of famers, Mel Renfro and Dave Wilcox. That was a Casanova team, but it was his coaches John McKay, George Seifert (49ers), Gunther Cunningham (Chiefs), John Robinson (Rams), and Norv Turner (Redskins) who made people pay attention to that little school in the northwest.
