Last fall, five programs - Florida State, Michigan, Liberty, Georgia and Washington - ended regular season play undefeated. We'd love to see a similar scenario unfold once again in 2024 - but according to ESPN's updated Football Power Index, just three teams have better than a ten percent chance of running the table this coming season. Those three programs? Notre Dame (15.8 percent), Oregon (15.7 percent) and Georgia (10.8 percent). Notre Dame is set to open the regular season with a tough road test at Texas A&M - but if the Irish can survive in College Station, their remaining schedule brings an undefeated campaign squarely into the realm of possibility. Late-season matchups against Florida State and USC will be the final major tests for Marcus Freeman's squad. Oregon, meanwhile, enters the 2024 season as members of a new conference. The new Big Ten program lost just two games in 2023 - both to eventual national runner-up Washington - and is expected to compete for a spot in the College Football Playoff once again this fall. What about the Georgia Bulldogs? Led by the only returning starting quarterback (Carson Beck) of the aforementioned programs, Kirby Smart's squad is clawing to get back into the CFP after narrowly missing the four-team field last fall. The SEC may be the toughest conference to escape from without a loss - but ESPN's computer model likes the Bulldogs' chances heading into 2024.
