However, on the coaches' side, Bittle and Shelstad both made the 3rd team, Bittle & Bamba both on the All-Defensive Team. 2025 All-Big Ten men's basketball teams revealed, awards announced - On3 WWW.ON3.COM On Tuesday, the Big Ten revealed its 2025 men's basketball postseason honors. The voters had plenty to consider.
March 11Mar 11 Moderator Bittle and Shelstad on the 3rd team does not trouble me in a conference as deep as the B1G. Leader in the clubhouse, Michigan State, had few all-conference players.
March 11Mar 11 Must be a hell of a coaching staff. Michigan State's head coach and assistant were named coaches of the year in their respective categories. Michigan State had no players on first or second team all-conference. They did have on 2 on third team, but third team is noted as having 7 players rather than 5 due to tie votes.
March 11Mar 11 Author Moderator The B1G is big, so making 3rd team is significant, but I believe that compared to Bittle, Shelstad is overranked being on the same level. He did hit some shots at the end of games, but better, more consistent play would have made those hero shots unnecessary, there were far too many games, where Shelstad, the point guard, would disappear completely.
March 12Mar 12 Bittle was ineffective during the five game losing streak, probably because he was limited by an injury. Fans were complaining on this site that he could not defend the pick and roll. Perhaps that influenced the perception on the part of those who select these honorary teams. In retrospect, I wonder whether it might not have been better to sit him down for a couple of games to enable his foot (or whatever it was) to heal.
