Rose Bowl to start an hour earlier in Jan. 1 CFP tripleheader - ESPN WWW.ESPN.COM The Rose Bowl Game will start an hour earlier than its traditional window and kick off at 4 p.m. ET as part of a New Year's Day tripleheader of College Football Playoff quarterfinals on ESPN. This move allows the Sugar Bowl to move from 9 PM Eastern to 8 PM. 1/1/26 will be a great day for CFB: Orange Bowl Noon Eastern; Rose Bowl 4 PM Eastern; Sugar Bowl 8 PM Eastern. HDuck No. 2 Share Posted 6 hours ago Will reduce tailgating time between the end of the parade and kickoff. In the earliest years the kickoff was 2:15 pm, then was adjusted to 2:00 pm in the 1940's. Lights weren't added until 1929 so it's interesting to contemplate those earlier games. Perhaps they were shorter duration without the TV commercials and extended half-time? The two "BCS Championship" games in 2002 and 2006 were late starts. Both about 5:25 pm PT for Miami vs Nebraska and Texas vs USC.
