Ten Years Ago

Recommended Posts

Time doesn't stop. Ten years ago today you had Oregon coming off a conference championship and making the first ever CFP Four Team Edition. They won in blowout fashion in the Rose Bowl before meeting Ohio State in the title game. Marcus Mariota won a Heisman and went number two to Tennessee to be their franchise QB.

Fast forward and you have Oregon coming off a conference championship. They made the first ever CFP Twelve Team Edition. They played in the Rose Bowl vs Ohio State. Cam Ward was the Heisman runner up and went number one to Tennessee to be their franchise QB.

A few things have changed though. How crazy would I have seemed if I told you Oregon won the B1G in their first year. USC, UCLA and Washington also joined the B1G. Texas and Oklahoma joined the SEC while Stanford , Cal and SMU were in the ACC. The PAC -12 consists of two programs, Deion Sanders is coaching Colorado and Bill Belichick is in college coaching UNC.

Would you believe me?

I still don't understand BB to UNC? Cal and Stanford in the ACC? Why not. Is Nebraska ever going to a contender again? I don't see it. SMU? Cam Ward? From Incarnate Word to WSU to The U, and now to a really bad Tennessee team with a new coach. Meanwhile, USC & UCLA are doing okay in the B1G, UW is chasing its tail, Oregon is winning championships,

BB will either be a complete and utter dumpster fire or he'll change CFB forever. Either way I'm intrigued. I don't understand the whole situation with his ummmm .... Personal image manager, but hey man as long as nobody gets hurt, all the power to you.

Stanford and California playing in the ATLANTIC Coast Conference is wild just in name alone. SMU essentially buying their way into the P4 and making the playoff in year one was something I didn't see. But I didn't see Boise and ASU getting byes while Texas, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Penn State all had to play first round games. Notre Dame should never ever get a first round bye until they join a league imo. CFB has to hold them to some account of their weak schedule and force them to always pay for that with an extra game.

As far as private equity, the Michigan spy scandal and the whole Deion changing Colorado football forever things happening. I would have guessed that players would eventually get paid and the NCAA would butcher it beyond a Friday the 13th film. We all know Michigan won't get the punishment they deserve. They're such hypocrites though, their fan base cheered while USC and Ohio State got wins and seasons erased along with scholarship reductions for doing far less. Michigan used funds and a military tactician to steal signs and it absolutely changed their fortunes. Just look at Jim Harbaugh desperately searching for an NFL gig for two straight seasons. Two of his best seasons ever btw.

Have you ever seen a guy coming off a National Title looking to leave that quickly? Have you ever seen a guy with all the talent returning from the prior season to him winning the title look to leave? He's the guy who lied about buying a kid a cheeseburger, he had sleepovers with recruits and he violated Covid rules blatantly. Yet Michigan fans say he the greatest coach ever.

Enough with him though. If I had a prediction for the next decade. It would be CFB being almost a clone of the NFL as far as the playoff format and salary cap rules. There has to be structure and that includes a commissioner. Probably a jointly appointed one just over the SEC and B1G head guys.

I think Oregon will be the next program to win their first ever title. Clemson broke through and won two in the last decade. Georgia finally broke through for the first time since the 80's. Alabama and Ohio State will continue to roll along. Notre Dame will jump up and grab a title as long as Freeman remains there.

Will USC, Miami or FSU finally be back? I don't know. You would think they have all the resources, but it takes big time money from alumni and businesses. Sports fans in L.A and Miami just don't really care as much as fans in Eugene or Gainesville tbh.

So I think Oregon will win a title. Texas will as well. Georgia and Ohio State will get at least one. Notre Dame will finally breakthrough if Freeman stays. LSU will find one of those odd years where the Title game is played in the Superdome and Alabama will prove themselves to still be a power.

Florida, USC and Miami will finally make a playoff and could potentially fulfill their potential. It might be under different coaches though.

The Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans will still be terrible and looking for franchise QBs.

BB and Nick Saban will star in a movie called "Grumpy Old Coaches".

So many things, Gat. Belichick. I still think he wants to get back to the NFL, leave UNC to his kid, so he can "win without Brady" and break Shula's record. Deion and Colorado, I don't know about "changing forever", they improved to 2nd in the B12. Cal & Stanford in the ACc describes college football perfectly.

I used to always cheer for Michigan when they played osu2.

And Washington fans feel the same way about James. I don't know who's on top at osu2, Woody, or Urban.

Everything points to Oregon winning a Natty, there isn't anything else OBD can do!
