Posted May 16May 16 Moderator Dan comes in at No. 6. Left off of one ballot due to lack of track record. Ranking the best coaches in college football for 2025 - ESPN WWW.ESPN.COM Kirby Smart has to be No. 1, or does he? What about Ryan Day? Or Marcus Freeman? Who made our list -- and why. And Belichick got one No.1 vote and no other votes.
May 17May 17 Moderator I'm relieved that Curt "I'm a Winner" Cignetti didn't make the cut, and the "longevity" issue for Lanning is bogus, 35-6 is more than enough to make an assessment on his coaching abilities. I still maintain that Day is a Coach who does a lot with a lot, but often not enough. In my criteria, at the top I'd just rank the coaches on if I'd want them to be my coach. Kirby is a lock at No.1, moving forward, who looks better than Lanning? We'll see if Swinney, who has bucked the system the last few years can get Clemson back on top, fortunately, Clemson is sitting pretty in a basketball conference.

I agree, Freeman, Sarkisian and Lanning all were signed as HCs the same year. Now Sarkisian did have his failed years at USC and Washington, but I don't get the "longevity" excuse. My assumption is its more recency bias since ND and Texas made in farther in the CFP than Oregon... Oh well, not that this really matters. Edited May 18May 18 by SoutheastDuck
