IF THE NCAA WAS IN CHARGE OF THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF - THIS WOULD BE THE FIELD

Recommended Posts

Expansion of the current playoff is still under discussion with the ACC supposedly and in line with Dabo and Mack Brown, wanting an 8 team field. The B1G and Pac-12 being fine with a 12 team  but insisting that all power 5 champs are in the field. And there is a lot of debate as to whether or not to include the existing NY6 bowls. Because of the extra $ an expanded playoff will bring in, I expect an agreement will come by March. This would possibly allow the field to expand by 2024?

If the NCAA was in charge of the football championship, below is the tournament field.

1. Alabama - SEC vs  16. Northern Illinois - MAC

8. Ole Miss - AL vs 9. Oklahoma State- AL

4. Cincinnati - AAC vs 13. Louisiana - Sun Belt

5. Notre Dame - AL vs 12. Pittsburgh - ACC

2. Michigan - B1G vs 15. Utah State - Mountain West

7. Baylor - B12 vs 10 Michigan State - AL

3. Georgia - AL vs 14. UTSA - CUSA

6.Ohio State - AL vs 11 Utah - Pac-12

Using the Pac-12 and B1G's proposal the field would be:

1.Alabama - SEC

2. Michigan - B1G

3. Georgia - AL

4. Cincinnati - AAC/G5

5. Notre Dame - AL

6. Ohio State - AL

7.Baylor - B12

8. Ole Miss - AL

9. Oklahoma State - AL

10. Michigan State - AL

11. Utah - Pac-12

12. Pitt - ACC

I either of the above the Pac-12  has only a single representative.

Without Mario, life and Oregon football will go on

Seeing the list, I might be inclined to agree that an eight team field is the right number for now.

We would still get tOSU vs Utah in the Rose Bowl, right?

Unknown but I doubt that the B1G and Pac-12 would go for 8 (5 P5 champs, G% rep, 2 AL) without some sort of protection for the Rose Bowl?
