Charles Fischer Administrator No. 1 Share Posted December 14, 2021 (From Oregon Athletics Press Release) EUGENE, Ore. — Verone McKinley III joined Kayvon Thibodeaux as a 2021 consensus all-American on Tuesday as both Ducks were named to the Sporting News All-America first team. A player is recognized as a consensus all-American after being named to the first team by at least half of the five official selectors – the Walter Camp Football Foundation (WCFF), Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), Associated Press (AP), Sporting News, and American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). McKinley has now earned first-team all-America honors by the WCFF, AP, and Sporting News, while also landing on the FWAA second team. The AFCA all-America teams will be revealed on Wednesday. Thibodeaux secured consensus all-America status on Monday with the release of the AP all-America team. He has been named to the first team by each of the first four official selectors, and can become the fourth unanimous all-American in program history if he is named to the first team by the AFCA. Thibodeaux and McKinley are the ninth and 10th consensus all-Americans ever for the Ducks, and the first pair of teammates to earn the honor in the same season since Marcus Mariota and Ifo Ekpre-Olomu in 2014. LaMichael James and Cliff Harris also were consensus all-Americans in the same season in 2010.
