Ducks Beat Beavers in Corvallis as Late Three by Eric Williams Jr.

Recommended Posts

Williams Jr. game winner OSU

Yeah, I know everyone is watching Bama and Georgia in the NC.

Ducks beat OSU in Corvallis in a game that went right down to the final shot. Leading 78-76 and Beavs with the ball and 8 seconds remaining, the barkrats get the ball to Alatishe uncontested at the front of the rim and he chokes a layup.

Game shouldn't have been close as the Oregon men again can't make their free throws making only 8 of 18.

They controlled the glass, out-rebounding OSU 39-29.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CORVALLIS, Ore. Eric Williams hit the go-ahead three pointer with 13.2 seconds left to lift the Ducks over the Beavers in Corvallis.

How it Happened: The rivalry got off to a hot start, with both teams shooting over 50% in the first 10 minutes. The half saw seven ties and seven lead changes, with OSU taking control early. Some key stops and buckets from Eric Williams gave the Ducks a slight advantage. After playing for the last shot in the half, Will Richardson handed the ball off to Jacob Young for a wide open three-pointer that he hit as time expired, giving Oregon a 40-36 lead at the break.

The Battle continued in the second half, with five more ties, but somehow the Ducks managed to never relinquish the lead. Williams Jr. scored nine points in the period to pace the Ducks offensively, while both he and N’Faly Dante finished with double-doubles for Oregon. The game was tied up with 38 seconds to play, after OSU executed a well-designed out of bounds play. The Ducks countered and got Williams an open look with 13 seconds left, and Williams connected for a three-point lead. Oregon intentionally fouled, made a couple free throws and defended well to escape with the victory.

“Eric came to play and that gave us a big lift, he was the difference in the game tonight," said head coach Dana Altman.

Who Stood Out: Jacob Young was the leading scorer after a strong first half, while Dante (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Williams Jr. (14 points, 11 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles.

Up Next: Oregon heads to Los Angeles to face UCLA on Thursday and USC on Saturday.

Any win against the Beavs is a good win

Glad we got the win but, my God, is there no coach on this entire team that can teach the players how to shoot free throws? It's not that hard, just figure out the simplest method and practice your ass off on free throws.  If I were Dante, with a possible NBA future on the line, I would work my ass off for hours after regular practice on (1) free throws; and (2) hand-eye coordination/ball handling.

Good guy, great potential, and had a great night tonight with a double-double.  However, how many times do we see him fumble the ball down low or stumble to the ground?  Just improve a little on these two things and you are a much better pro candidate.  Let's do this!

A big win, unlike those two losses earlier to ASU and Stanford, with the missed free throws we can't even say the Ducks nailed it down at the end. But a win is a win, and maybe we are seeing the Ducks do what we've come to expect from Altman's teams; get it together later in the season?

We need Rick Barry to show these guys how to shoot free throws.........the underhanded way.

EXACTLY! Full agreement on both points. And, I'd add Kepnang's name to the points about Dante. Kepnang does some good things on defense, but the ball handling around the basket area needs LOTS of work.

The free throw shooting is so important. How many games during the Pritchard years did the Ducks put away down the stretch by just making their free throws? Many, many. A team can stand one or two guys who are liabilities at the line, but not the majority of the team.

I keep wanting to see more minutes out of Bittle. You can see the natural coordination as he moves about the court. Maybe Coach Altman needs to slap him in the face a few times and yell at him on the sideline before inserting him into the game. Some guys play better when they're playing "angry." 😉
