Duck fans should not be disappointed if the NIT refuses to come calling. I have it on good authority that the Ducks would get an invite as a #5 seed to a new tournament outside Havre, Montana.

The tournament is the brainchild of a winter-wheat magnate who has flattened one of his fields and created three beautiful grass basketball courts, including one “center court” that sits in the shadow of a classic red barn. The tournament sponsor is Mail Pouch Tobacco. The wheat tycoon, known around those parts only as “Big Ed,” says he hopes Havre does for college basketball what Wimbledon has done for tennis.

In addition to the Oregon Ducks, rumor has it that the tournament will also invite such up-and-comers as Hofstra, Southeastern Alabama Tech, Northwestern Rhode Island, Toledo, and Sheldon High School.

Big Ed’s Roundball Tournament and Tractor Auction is scheduled for sometime in mid-May or “whenever all the snow melts.”

The Ducks Athletic Office could not be reached for comment.

Will all the teams have to wear All White uniforms?

That was the original plan, inspired of course by Wimbledon protocol. However, the tournament sponsor stepped in and mandated that all teams must wear bright red uniforms emblazoned with "Chew Mail Pouch Tobacco."

Personally they should set this one out and be forced to look at the replays of their losses for 16 hours a day.

Looks like Oklahoma, Florida, and BYU will play in the NIT.

At Utah State on Tuesday…go get that 20th win.
