Recommended Posts

Scott Ellis on the mound for Oregon on a cold, drizzling rain afternoon.

Ellis gave up a leadoff single, and a walk(those damn free bases) but got out of the top half of the first inning.

Tanner Smith pokes a line drive up the middle for a leadoff single.

Batting second is Colby Shade, and he hits a two strike pitch to the third baseman. Smith is forced out at second base on a fielders choice.

Brennan Milone swung a hot bat in game two on Saturday, and hopefully he can continue that today.

Colby Shade stole second base to put Oregon in scoring position with one out, but Milone goes down swinging on a full count pitch.

Jacob Walsh hit a liner into center left that the Cardinals center fielder made a diving catch on to end Oregon's threat.

Looks like Coach Wasikowski is going to throw a lot of pitchers out there today as Caleb Sloan is now pitching for Oregon. Sloan walked the first hitter faced after going full count to him. The second batter hit a sharp ground ball to Josh Kasevich at shortstop which he turns into a double play. Jacob Walsh made a nice dig out of the dirt(?) at first base to complete the DP. The third hitter strikes out to end the top half of the second inning.

After Josh Kasevich flied out to center field Oregon threatens on a single through the left side of the infield by Anthony Hall, who then steals second base. Josiah Cromwick pokes a single through the right side of the infield advancing Hall to third base. A wild pitch scores Hall and puts Cromwick at second. Sam Novitske drew a walk off four straight balls. Gavin Grant singled to left field scoring Cromwick. The throw home trying to prevent the run allows Novitske to advance to third base and Grant to take second. Tanner Smith hit a ground ball to the second baseman and is thrown out at first but gets the RBI as Novitske scores, and Grant standing on third. Connor Shade ends the inning with a ground ball out third to first.

Caleb Sloan continues pitching for our Ducks in the top of the third inning. And for the third straight inning BSU puts their leadoff batter on first via a walk on a full count pitch. Next hitter strikes out on three straight pitches from Sloan. A single to left center puts runners at the corners for the Cardinals. Another double play by our men ends the threat.

Our Ducks go meekly in the bottom of the third on a Brennan Milone fly out to right field, Jacob Walsh ground out to the pitcher, and a ground ball by Josh Kasevich to second base.

Coach Waz continues to ride with Caleb Sloan pitching.  For the first time in this game BSU doesn't put their leadoff batter on base as Sloan strikes him out looking at a 3-2 pitch. The second out is a pop up fly to Kasevich at shortstop. Gavin Grant almost ends the inning with a leaping attempt at second base on a liner to right that goes off his glove. Sloan gives up another single to put runners at second and first with two out. Sloan ends the inning with a three pitch strike out!

0 Runs, 2 Hits, 0 Errors, 2 LOB

Anthony Hall starts the Ducks out in the bottom of the fourth inning with a ground out to first base. Josiah Cromwick pokes a single between third and short into left field. Cromwick with the steal of second puts him in scoring position. Sam Novitske drew a walk to put runners at second and first with only one out. And Oregon has chased Ball State's starting pitcher. Ducks are getting good wood(yeah, I know it's aluminum) on the ball, but unfortunately are hitting the ball to where BSU's players are as Gavin Grant pops up to second base, and Tanner Smith ends the Oregon half of the inning on a fly out to left field.

0 Runs, 1 Hits, 0 Errors, 2 LOB

Stone Churby in to pitch for Caleb Sloan and maybe Coach Wasikowski should have stuck with Caleb as BSU puts two on base via a walk and a hit by pitch with nobody out. Coach Waz with a quick hook of Churby. Rio Britton to pitch and try to and get out of this jam. Britton gets a 11 pitch strikeout against BSU's dangerous 1st baseman Quartermaine. A seeing eye single to right center falls in for a single, but the runners can only advance to third and second base. A one out double scores two runs for Ball State. Rio internationally walks the next hitter to load the bases and set up a potential inning ending double play. Next batter draws a walk to bring in the tying run for the Cardinals. Bases still loaded with only one out. A sacrifice fly to right field scores the go ahead run. Britton gets out of the top of the fifth enticing a fly out to Colby Shade in center field.

4 Runs, 2 Hits, 0 Errors, 2 LOB

Colby Shade starts the Ducks with a lead off single to center field. Brennan Milone with another single to center field moving Colby to second base and nobody out. Jacob Walsh put the ball through the left side of the infield, but Shade is thrown out at the plate trying to tie the game. Milone takes third base on the throw home. Ducks have runners at the corners with one out. BSU coach brings in a new pitcher to try and snuff out the Oregon rally. Jacob Walsh stole second to put both runners in scoring position. Josh Kasevich hit a ground ball to second base that scores Milone to tie the game. Anthony Hall with a swinging strikeout ends the last of the fifth inning, but Oregon has answered to tie the game.

Rio Britton into his third inning pitching for Oregon. After two high fly balls to center field that Colby Shade easily handles for two outs, Britton is done for the afternoon. Dylan Sabia in to relieve Rio with two out in the top half of the seventh. And Sabia gets another chance for Colby Shade who gloves the ball in center left for out number three.

Jacob Walsh will face a new pitcher to lead off for Oregon. Walsh swung at the first pitch and popped out to shortstop.

Next up, Josh Kasevich hit a line drive up the middle for a single.

Anthony Hall hit a ground ball to second base that gets mishandled, runners at second and first base with one out. The play was ruled a "fielders choice" as the throw was to second. Bryce Boettcher in to pinch run for Hall.

Josiah Cromwick hit a grounder to third base and he throws wide of second base allowing Kasevich to score from second, Boettcher moves to third and Cromwick on first.

Ball State gets a double play to end the damage, as Sam Novitske hit a grounder to third base and Boettcher is caught trying to score from second on the play.

Oregon needed those cushion runs as the first two batters for BSU hit home runs off Dylan Sabia to right and left field respectively. After Sabia walks the next batter, Kolby Somers will come on to pitch. A sacrifice bunt moves the runner to second base with one out. Somers gets the BSU hitter to strike out for the second out. The next batter is intentionally walked. Quartermaine was put on base via the walk as he has hit the Oregon pitchers pretty hard in this series. And Kolby Somers makes that strategy work as he strikes out the next hitter to get out of the inning.

2 Runs, 2 Hits, 0 Errors, 2 LOB

Oregon with it's big hitters of Gavin Grant, Tanner Smith, and Colby Shade to try and regain the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning.
