Cardwell is one of 10 Pac-12 running backs on the preseason watch list. Oregon has had one Doak Walker Award winner in its history – LaMichael James in 2010. The last Duck to be named a semifinalist or better for the award was Royce Freeman in 2017.

Byron Cardwell is on the preseason watch list for the 2022 Doak Walker Award after leading the Pac-12 with 6.84 yards per carry as a freshman.
