Men's Basketball: 1/7/23 Ducks @ Utah (Ducks WIN 70-60)

Recommended Posts

Can Runnin’ Utes’ remarkable Pac-12 run continue against perennial nemesis Oregon?

The Ducks have won 19 of last 20 matchups with Utah, but the Runnin’ Utes are undefeated in league play and favored to win Saturday’s game at the Huntsman Center.

Oregon has won its last nine games against Utah, and holds a 19-1 advantage over the Utes in Pac-12 games. Second-year coach Craig Smith’s rebuilding efforts appear to be right on track, while Oregon is backsliding at an astounding rate.

Oregon men’s basketball in desperate need of win at Utah to keep postseason hopes alive

Oregon’s NCAA Tournament hopes are already on the brink, with tonight’s game at Utah as one of the few remaining chances for the Ducks to add a quality win and resuscitate their postseason chances.

Thursday’s historically woeful loss at Colorado, Oregon (8-7, 2-2 Pac-12) fell from 72 to 81 in NET and still have yet to gain a Quadrant 1 win (0-4).

The Utes (12-4, 5-0) present an opportunity to change that, with tonight (4 p.m., Pac-12 Network) being one of six remaining Q1 games for UO as of Saturday, with all of those games happening by Feb. 11.

Oregon faces first-place Utah in first game after embarrassing loss at Colorado

Oregon is coming off one of the worst performances in the Dana Altman era, where they fell 68-41 at Colorado. The Ducks had the fewest points scored in a game coached by Altman, the fewest assists by an Altman team (3, and the Ducks were dominated on the glass by 18.

How will this team respond Saturday night against an even better opponent? The Ducks sit 8-7 on the season, their NCAA Tournament at-large chances are already on life support, and we haven't even reached the halfway point of the month of January.

‘It stings a little bit more’: Why the loss to unheralded Oregon was so disappointing for the Runnin’ Utes

For the first time in recent memory, the Huntsman Center was rocking for a Runnin’ Utes basketball game Saturday night.

Utah (12-5, 5-1) used that energy and spark to mount a nice comeback in the second half, but the Ducks made the bigger

plays down the stretch and handed the home team its first Pac-12 loss of the season.
