Ducks enter crucial road trip with focus on improved consistency and defense

"We're just not there right now. We as a coaching staff have to figure it out," Graves said following Thursday's practice. "What are we doing that we can do better?"

With the agonizing nature of their defeat in Corvallis still fresh, the Ducks have gotten to work this week to find solutions. Because the team did not play on Sunday, Graves gave the team two days off — a rarity this time of year — to get right physically as well as emotionally. The team's overall as heath is as good as it's been in months, he believes.

DUCKS CONTINUE ROAD SWING IN BAY AREA

The Ducks look to win their eighth straight against Cal and snap a two-game skid overall after suffering a 68-65 loss at Oregon State last Friday. Against the Beavers, freshman Chance Gray paced the Ducks with 18 points behind a career-best six 3-pointers.

Friday's contest will mark the only meeting in the regular season between Oregon and Cal. UO leads the all-time series 45-33 and has won five straight on the road.

Feels like this team is about one player short of being a really good team, they need one more women who could compete on the inside, always feels like whenever we don't have Van Slooten or Kyei we struggle on the inside to rebound or defend. Basham is not ready and Hosendove is just small for a PF/C.  Could have really used Isei staying around.

Ducks seek to end two-game losing streak in Berkeley on Friday night

Oregon (13-6, 4-4) has fallen to seventh place in the Pac-12 thanks to consecutive narrow losses to Washington State and Oregon State.

Both games followed similar scripts with the Ducks trailing by double-figures in the fourth quarter only to furiously rally to make things interesting before falling short. They've now lost three of their last four games.

Cal has won ONE conference game this year so far. Very disappointing that this game came down to the last 2 minutes again. Graves needs to recruit some shooters. 3/19 from 3 point line is awful,16%!

Ducks escape Berkeley with gritty victory to end two-game losing skid

Better end-of-game execution allowed the Ducks to avoid a would-be disastrous defeat in Berkeley.

The Ducks found themselves in a similar spot as they've been in recent defeats — in a hole and without much time to dig themselves out. But this time around they scored had the answers, scoring 10 of the final 12 points to pull out a 78-73 win over 11th-place California.

Grace VanSlooten leads 5 in double figures, Oregon women’s basketball narrowly escapes Cal with win

Grace VanSlooten had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead five players in double figures for the Ducks, who got scores from each of their starters in the final three minutes to flip a three-point deficit to a 78-73 win at Cal on Friday night at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley.

“We really needed that, as you well know,” Oregon coach Kelly Graves said on postgame radio. “Cal, they played a heck of game — both teams did. I thought both teams played really well tonight. It was contested, it was close the whole way, but it was really nice to see our Ducks make the plays down the stretch, especially defensively.”

This team reminds of the men's team.  No one can reliably shoot from distance.  Those bricks hurt my ears...........
