After completing a regular season sweep over Utah, the Ducks’ at-large tournament chances remain alive

With nine games left, including two against potential top-ten opponents, the path for Oregon to put together a tournament-worthy resume exists, but virtually without room for error.

“A lot of guys trying to contribute, playing through some ups and downs,” head coach Dana Altman said post-game Saturday. “We’re gonna have to play our tails off, everybody knows that, so we gotta get down and make up some ground.”

Oregon vs Arizona Prediction, College Basketball Game Preview Odds TV

Oregon has a good mix of things to at least keep this close and make it a battle.

It’s good enough on the boards to keep the Wildcats from generating a slew of second chance points, but it can’t run with

them. Expect one big second half scoring burst to bust through a tight game that’s going to be a little bit of a struggle early.

Oregon heads to Arizona with a chance at season-sweep of No. 5 Arizona

The Ducks dominated the Wildcats 87-68 in Eugene in early January. Oregon shot 53 percent from the field

while limiting Arizona to just 37. The Ducks beat the Wildcats by 10 on the rebounding margin, scored more

fast break points, had more assists, and steals, and made more 3-pointers.

"We're going to have to play hopefully as good as we did last time. At their place, it's always a fun place to play.

I know our guys are looking forward to the challenge."

Oregon men’s basketball hoping improved defense, rebounding travel to No. 5 Arizona

Oregon’s most impressive offensive display of the season came at the expense of Arizona and the Ducks will likely need to be very close to replicating that performance to sweep the season series.

“We got to play with energy, communicate defensively and I think we’ll be fine with the result,” forward Quincy Guerrier said. “Bring the same energy we did here at home and we’ll be in pretty good shape.”

Arizona's Azulis Tubelis has career-day in win over Oregon

After leading by five points in the first 90 seconds of the game, No. 5 Arizona woke up and fed potential Pac-12 Player of the Year winner Azulis Tubelis all game. The Ducks had no answer for the junior big man as he went through Oregon's interior defense at will.

The end result was a difficult 91-76 loss to the Wildcats, setting up an even more important must-win situation at Arizona State on Saturday.

Tubelis was unstoppable for the Wildcats, scoring 40 points on 16-of-21 shooting while making eight of his nine free throw attempts. He added nine rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a block in 36 minutes of action. It's the most points scored by a Pac-12 opponent against the Oregon Ducks.

Oregon's inability to stick to the scouting did them in against Arizona

"Fundamentally we were not very sound," said Oregon head coach Dana Altman. "We gave up a lot of easy baskets."

The Ducks struggled all night to contain Arizona's best player in junior forward Azulis Tubelis, who scored a career-high 40 points on 16-of-21 shooting, including eight of nine on free throws. Compounding the issue, the Ducks committed five fouls on made baskets by Tubelis.

In Eugene three weeks ago Oregon was able to dominate the Wildcats behind the play of star senior N'Faly Dante. Thursday night in Tucson Dante struggled to stay on the floor after three first-half fouls.

REMATCH IN DESERT GOES TO WILDCATS

Three weeks after Oregon dominated the paint to knock off Arizona in Eugene, the No. 5 Wildcats evened the score Thursday at McKale Center with a 91-76 victory over the Ducks fueled by post play.

"I'm disappointed," UO coach Dana Altman said. "You can't win giving up 91. We scored 76; our offense wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. But you can't win giving up 91 on the road."

Ducks have to find a point guard! Richardson is not the answer he is better suited as a shooting guard.
The fouls called on the Ducks were a little ticky tacky I thought. But the Ducks do need to play better defense. Bigs were caught flat footed at times. I saw a lot of reaching and grabbing by the guards too.

I did like the one three one zone defense the Ducks came out with in the second half. With the bigs stacked one two three from the arc down the key to the baseline. It gave Arizona problems. Ducks got a few turnovers but they just couldn’t convert on the offensive end. The Ducks have to play with more intensity. Playing a step behind is never successful.
