Rivalry matchup on deck for Oregon as they try to bounce back from a tough loss

The Oregon Duck men's basketball program will head to Seattle Tuesday afternoon for a Wednesday night date against rival Washington. It's the first meeting of the season between the two programs as the year hits the final stretch of basketball games.

Oregon is 18-8 against the Huskies with head coach Dana Altman leading the program, and the Ducks have won 12 of the last 14 meetings. Washington has lost four straight games going into Wednesday's meeting, while the Ducks are looking to bounce back from a huge missed opportunity in a loss at home to UCLA.

"With the conference schedule, it is a little different playing Washington once. The guys are getting ready for it with a quicker turnaround than usual," said Altman.

A look into Oregon's NCAA Tournament Resume

The Oregon Ducks men's basketball program has five remaining games left on the schedule, and all five games will come against opponents who have losing records in Pac-12 play.

With Oregon sitting just outside the NCAA Tournament at-large field, the Ducks have little room to drastically improve their NCAA Tournament chances before playing in next month's Pac-12 Tournament, but the Ducks should know they are right on the cusp of getting in.

With an NCAA NET Ranking of 50, Oregon is sitting just outside the field in the eyes of ESPN's Joe Lunardi. In Lunardi's latest bracketology update, he lists the Ducks as the first team out of the field.

Ducks control their destiny ahead of Washington road trip

No team is as squarely on the bubble as Dana Altman’s Ducks, who are currently listed as the first team out on Joe Lunardi’s Bracketology report.

Fortunately for Oregon, the path forward is a relatively easy one. Oregon closes with five sub-.500 teams in Pac-12 Conference play, giving this team a golden opportunity to take care of business and push their way into the Field of 68.

If they do, they would slightly salvage what has been a disastrous hoops season for the conference of champions. Arizona and UCLA are both on the two line, but no one else from the Pac-12 is currently on the bracket.

Oregon heads into final stretch of season looking to keep its focus away from postseason discussion

The Oregon men's basketball program kicks off the final stretch of the regular season with a road game at 10th place Washington in Seattle. The stretch run for Oregon comes with a razor-thin margin for error as Oregon still has a chance at making the NCAA Tournament via an at-large bid.

"We try to worry about what we can control. It's been an up and down. We have no idea how the committee will look at our early season injuries or our late season and how we are playing," said head coach Dana Altman. "We just have to worry about what we can control and that's hopefully playing well Wednesday night."

Oregon suffers hearbreaking overtime defeat to Washington

With perhaps their postseason hopes hanging in the balance, the Ducks dropped a tough, heart-breaking 72-71 loss to the Huskies in the lone meeting between the two schools.

"We had a couple of chances late to knock them out and we committed some turnovers," said a disappointed Dana Altman on the school's postgame radio show.

The Huskies scored four points in the final 80 seconds of the game, both coming at the rim. The Ducks missed seven of their 10 shots in overtime, including two of their final three in the final 50 seconds of the game.

Oregon had the ball with 10 seconds to play and head coach Dana Altman opted to not call a timeout and allow Will Richardson to attack the rim, and his shot was blocked.

"We just didn't get it done, didn't get it done," said Altman.

Overtime Loss A Setback For Ducks

Oregon's drive for a first-round Pac-12 Tournament bye and NCAA Tournament consideration took a hit Wednesday.

Oregon couldn't hold a late lead in regulation and lost in overtime Wednesday at Washington, a setback as the Ducks fight to earn a first-round bye in the Pac-12 Tournament and stay on the NCAA Tournament bubble.

The UO men led by as much as eight in the second half but needed a dunk from N'Faly Dante to force overtime, in which the Huskies scored last in a back-and-forth period to win 72-71.

A win would have put the Ducks into the top four of the Pac-12 standings to open the week, and continued the team's recent scramble for NCAA Tournament consideration.

Was at the game. If you didn’t have a stake in it, it was probably a really fun, exciting game to watch. The Husky fans surrounding me were obviously enthralled and energized by the game’s progress and outcome (puppies are so excitable).

But the comments that really stood out were the amazement being voiced about how no one had seen their team play this well all year. We get (and deserve) the best the PAC 12 can offer. Dana’s past success doesn’t make it any easier on the latest edition of his flock, or on him.

What are Oregon's NCAA Tournament chances after a loss at Washington?

The Ducks are back in Eugene Thursday morning after a tough and bad overtime loss to rival Washington Wednesday night. It was a game the Ducks really needed to win as their margin for error in getting into the NCAA Tournament is razor thin. After dropping the 72-71 overtime loss what was the damage done to Oregon's NCAA Tournament resume?

The Ducks dropped just one spot in the NCAA NET Rankings, which could be viewed as a good sign for Oregon. The Ducks sit 49th overall. The negative is that the loss to Washington - currently ranked 122nd in the NET - is the worst loss on the Oregon resume to date. The loss to the Huskies is worse than December losses at home to Utah Valley (79) and UC Irvine (84) by a good amount.
