Oregon's at-large hopes dashed with yet another close loss

The Oregon Ducks saw their final chance at an NCAA Tournament at-large bit slip away in Eastern Washington as the Ducks fell to the Washington State Cougars 68-65. Oregon had their chances in the final minutes but the Ducks just couldn't get past costly mistakes in the loss.

Needing one defensive stop and rebound with 1:20 to play in the game the Ducks were unable to do it. The Cougars missed two shots during their final possession of the game and both times grabbed the offensive rebound.

The Ducks played almost perfect defense after the Cougars' second offensive rebound, but a kicked ball by the Ducks resulted in a shot-clock reset for the Cougars, who used their third attempt at a basket in one possession to score a driving layup down the right side of the court.

ESPN says Oregon's NCAA Tournament door is 'closing fast' after winless weekend

The Ducks went on their Washington road trip this past week and ended up losing both games, falling to the Huskies and Cougars. With three games left, two of which are at home, it appears that the Ducks’ chance of securing an at-large bid into March Madness is slim-to-none.

Still, the Ducks own a 19-point win over Arizona and they’re borderline top 50 in the NET rankings. The door is open the tiniest bit but closing fast.”

The fact that the worldwide leader is still holding onto the fact that Oregon has a win over Arizona and is top 50 in the NET rankings seems like false hope.
