Men's Basketball: 3/4/23 Stanford @ Ducks (Ducks WIN 73-68)

As Senior Day approaches on Saturday the Ducks hope to send out their seniors in style

Saturday night will be a chance for Oregon's fans to say goodbye to one of the program's most successful players, while also giving a large Oregon senior class a chance at walking off the floor with a win.

Senior day for the Oregon men's basketball program will be held following the team's game against Stanford at 1 p.m. For Oregon, they hope this is the team's final home game of the year because they made the NCAA Tournament.

The Ducks will honor senior point guard Will Richardson while fellow seniors N'Faly Dante, Jermaine Couisnard, Quincy Guerrier, Rivaldo Soares, and walk-on Brady Paris could all also walk and be honored.

Everyone but Richardson still has a year of eligibility remaining if they want to use it stemming from the 2020-2021 season played during COVID, keeping the door open for a return next season.

Oregon is expecting one of its larger crowds of the season against Stanford as the school hopes to send off their seniors with a win and the No. 4 seed in next week's Pac-12 Tournament.

What a weird game to have on CBS, I mean good for them, but seems like a pretty low key game to put on the schedule even before the season started.

Hopefully they get the win and then a few more in the conference tourney.

Oregon hosts Stanford in season finale with a lot on the line

The Oregon Ducks (17-13, 11-8) are looking to close out their final game of the regular season by sending out their seniors with a victory on the home floor. To do it, they'll need to knock off an opponent that pulled off an upset against the Ducks earlier this season.

The Oregon Ducks will host 10th-place Stanford (13-17, 7-12) Saturday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena at 1 p.m. PT. The game will be carried by CBS with Spero Dedes and Avery Johnson on the call.

With a win, the Ducks will close out the regular season with three straight wins and lock themselves in for the No. 4 seed in the Pac-12 Tournament next week in Las Vegas.

"They got a lot of shooters," Oregon senior guard Jermaine Couisnard said of the Cardinal. "It's hard to stop them when they get going and making shots. We have to just get after them early in the game. Pressure them, see what the outcome will be."

MBB recap: Ducks win and clinch first round bye in Pac-12 tourney

N’Faly Dante has the knack of seemingly coming out of nowhere to block a shot.

The Oregon 7-foot center had two huge blocks in the last minute of the game to help the Ducks preserve a huge 73-68 victory over Stanford. With the win, the Ducks finish the regular season 18-13 and 12-8 in conference play.

Oregon clinches Pac-12 Tournament 4 seed, bye with Senior Day victory over Stanford

The win wasn't going to be easy for the Oregon Ducks. Some of that was because the Stanford Cardinal played great basketball, and some of it was because the Oregon Ducks struggled with putting the game away when given the chance.

With the No. 4 seed in next week's Pac-12 Tournament on the line and Oregon's NCAA Tournament at-large lives hanging in the balance, the Ducks needed to pull out the win.

The Ducks did just enough to beat visiting Stanford 73-68 behind one of the best performances of the year by senior center N'Faly Dante. The Ducks finished the regular season 18-13 overall and 12-8 in Pac-12 play.

With the victory, the Oregon Ducks will now play the winner between the No. 5 and No. 12 seed on Thursday afternoon.

Second half adjustments and N'Faly Dante's defensive presence lead the Ducks to victory

Winning games in the month of March is always difficult and that was the case Saturday afternoon for the Oregon men's basketball program.

Needing a win to secure the Pac-12's No. 4 seed in the tournament next week, the Ducks had chances late to ice the visiting Stanford Cardinal and couldn't do it.

The Ducks were able to hold off a late charge by Stanford and walked off the floor in their regular-season finale with a 73-68 home win.

"We missed some critical free throws and had a couple of timely turnovers there," said Oregon head coach Dana Altman. "We got up 10, 11 there, Kel'el had two really good strong moves and just didn't get them in. Dante saved us with a bunch of blocks, I thought he was really active defensively and didn't let them get to the rim some."
