Oregon flips commitment of future SEC DL Tionne Gray

The Oregon Ducks have gone into the state of Missouri and flipped one of the best prospects in the 2024 recruiting class. After visiting the Oregon Ducks for an unofficial visit, 3-star defensive lineman and Missouri verbal commit Tionne Gray has moved his commitment to join the Ducks

.

Gray announced the decision on social media.

Gray is the third prospect within the last two weeks to give a verbal commitment to the Ducks. Earlier, the Ducks landed Aaron Flowers, a 4-star safety out of Texas, and then Trent Ferguson, a 3-star offensive tackle from Salem in the state of Oregon.

247Sports Composite four-star DL Tionne Gray flips from Mizzou to Oregon

St. Louis (Mo.) Hazelwood Central 247Sports Composite four-star defensive lineman Tionne Gray has decommitted from Missouri in favor of Oregon after visiting the Ducks campus this past weekend.

The 6-foot-6, 295-pound Gray is commit No. 8 for the Ducks in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

"They're getting a star on both sides of the line," Hazelwood Central head coach Carey Davis said. "A guy that is definitely a hard worker that can make things happen. going to work his butt off and do everything they ask him to do.

"I like his explosiveness. He has long arms and strength, plays through his hips and a guy that is really a true athlete playing the defensive line. Will take care of some double teams as they come his way and should be able to get to the quarterback a lot."

Class Impact: What Tionne Gray's Commitment Means for Oregon Football

Just from a numbers standpoint, three commitments in less than a week is a big deal. I think Gray's commitment is more of a needle mover for the Ducks compared to Trent Ferguson.

Dan Lanning going back to Missouri is a big plus in this recruiting win as the state continues to pump out solid talent year after year. Here in the 2024 class, Oregon is also recruiting defensive lineman Williams Nwaneri, the No. 1 DL in the country, as well as wide receiver Jeremiah McClelan.

I've been pretty adamant that Oregon's defensive line play has not lived up to the standard the coaches have set and will need to continue improving if the program wants to reach some of its goals like returning to the playoff and winning the Pac-12. Adding someone like Gray helps you do that, as his 6-foot-6, 295-pound frame is not one you can find easily, particularly out West.
