Ducks pour it on late to knock off Gonzaga

No. 20 Oregon erupted for 10 runs in its last three at-bats to rally from an early deficit to beat Gonzaga 11-4 on Tuesday night in nonconference action at PK Park.

Gonzaga (14-23) took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning, but Oregon (27-12) scored a run in the sixth, seven in the seventh and another two in the eighth to overcome a slow start at the plate.

Seven run inning propels No. 23 Oregon to game one victory over Gonzaga

Tuesday’s matchup against Gonzaga marked the beginning of an important week of baseball for the No. 23 Oregon Ducks.

Two games against the Bulldogs set the stage for a three-game matchup with Pac-12 leader No. 12 Arizona State.

Like Tuesday's weather, a gray start led to a shining seven-run seventh as the Ducks took down the Bulldogs, winning 11-4.

“A lot of resiliency,” said head coach Mark Wasikowski on what he saw from his team. “Even though the arms that they threw out there today were really good arms, for our guys to just continue to battle throughout the course of the game and then eventually get to them late was really, really good.”

With the wind blowing out at PK Park, it was only a matter of time before the offense clicked.

Ducks Bring Win Streak Into Weekend

Oregon will host Arizona State in a battle of ranked teams this weekend, and brings in a three-game win streak after Wednesday's win over Gonzaga.

A monumental series beckons for the Oregon baseball team, and the Ducks will take a three-game winning streak into the weekend after completing a two-game midweek sweep of Gonzaga on Wednesday at PK Park, 10-5.

The No. 20 Ducks (28-12) are tied for third in the Pac-12 at 11-7, 2.5 games behind first-place Arizona State, which will be in Eugene this weekend for a series with significant implications on the conference race. Oregon brings momentum into the showdown after two come-from-behind wins over Gonzaga, with UO head coach Mark Wasikowski's team scoring seven runs from the fifth inning on Wednesday to overcome an early 3-2 deficit.

"Coach Waz (brought) in a blue-collar mentality, and late in the game that's when you need it, especially when you're not going great," said UO outfielder Bryce Boettcher, who reached three times and stole a career-high-tying three bases Wednesday. "Instead of rolling over, our team does a good job of rallying together. … I think it goes back to that white T-shirt, blue-collar mentality that was instilled in us, and that's what helps us."
