Mario has a big decision before him.

Stay at a school that has a 25 year successful culture and process in place. Oregon has been close to the top of the mountain, (Joey Harrington years. Ducks got jobbed out of a Natty spot). Then fell down for a few years. (Bellotti, Kelly and MH took us back to the top twice.)

Then the 4-8 and 7-6 years with MH and Slick. (Then the 4 year climb back near the top under MC.)

Thru it all each staff stuck to the Oregon culture and process. During that time Oregon boosters, especially Phil and Penny poured untold millions into facilities and state of the art everything. The fan support was spectacular.

Miami on the other hand got to the top 30 years ago and stayed thru Johnson and Erickson. Hats off they broke thru and butt whipped all the blue bloods. Well done....

However Miami had no culture or process in place. No investment into facilities by boosters. Coker could not maintain and for 20 plus years the Canes have been an after thought.

So MC can choose to maintain and grow the established culture at Oregon. Enjoy unlimited booster support and get Oregon to the top. He has about 60 plus blue chip established players to work with.

    Or

He can go home. Start fresh from the ground up. Then establish the needed culture and process and take the Canes back to the top. He can maybe hope the boosters will invest hundreds of millions to upgrade facilities.

Either way MC will get it done.

I just hope he remembers which school gave him his second chance as a head coach. MC talks about loyalty. Let's see if he means it.

Yes,  We are going to see who Mario really is soon!

  2. I do agree with Hayward Duck and as so glad I had car issues and did not drive to Las Vegas yesterday.

No desire whatsoever to go to a bowl and watch this offense plod about.  Or Mario call time outs in first minutes of game etc.

But, winning cures most everything in football for better or worse.

  3. I am not a Mario hater and hope for continuity that he stays.

But,  Eugene is not for everyone, it is not a big city,  the weather sucks and a different kind of diversity than most cities.

If he prefers to live in Miami, (I sure would not) then he just may not be the right coach for U of O.

There are good quality football players who (and their parents) who prefer being in a safer and small community, and those who

prefer the glitter and life in the city.

There are coaches whom would prefer to live in Oregon too Im sure.  We, need a great coach whom also wants to be here and to stay.

Open the pocketbooks and find him If Mario feels like he must go home to that mess.

I was born in Texas, raised in So Cal and came back to Oregon by choice from Hawaii.  So, I know and understand the benefits of warm weather, ocean, etc.

If this is what he prefers, for whatever reason, then just let him go, we do not have to beg!   I would never live in Miami myself.

Then, let's spend (not my money lol) and get the best coach in the country who would appreciate the lifestyle in Oregon over cities, glitter and easier recruiting ease.  We need not only a quality coach, but stability.  I don't blame the players for not showing up with this nonsense going on.  The Sumataia in particular and Pittman mid season departures are concerning.   I would love to hear more about it, but presume that Mullens has more knowledge than I do.

So I hope Mario love it here and wants to stay and grows as a coach,  but if not, so be it.  It is a mostly free country and people should have the opportunity to live and work and play where they choose without much recrimination.

I think that we are going to see who Mario really is soon.

  4. Perhaps,  Our freshmen were not as ready as Stroud.

I believe we will see the Real Mario soon.  I am curious as to how he handles himself and the Miami interest.

I hope he stays for continuity but, if not, we have lost and hired coaches before.

It would please me personally to see the pocketbooks opened for Lane Kiffin

Anyways, it was not a bad season really and I will root for Ducks whomever coaches.

  5. So glad AB is still in lol.   He gives us the best chance to what Mario?   We need him to finish this comedy in 4th quarter.  The fact that Butterfield or TT is not in,  I am done defending Mario.  Sure lots of injuries and young kids. I'd like to hear what Joe Morehead really thinks.  There may not be a major conference that Oregon could win right now, recruits or not.  WTH is going on inside Oregon?

  6. When it gets down to real, these thing usually come down to who offers the most money.

So,  If Miami offers and our donors want to keep him,  it is probably within their control.  Deep pockets are largely what

runs college football now.  These new financial arrangements for athletes are a new paradigm.  We shall see what happens soon.

Oregon will not disappear should Mario leave.  I hope he stays personally and we pay what is necessary, but it is not like losing Chip Kelly ay the time.

We have not been a real playoff threat since.  I think he stays, but lol, I don't even know the man.

So Phil, what do you want to do?

Go Ducks!  Win the Rose Bowl, the grandaddy of them all.

  7. Thank you, very well written.  I've been watching almost that long also.

Do I like our offensive system, not really.

Do I remember Justin Herbert not being allowed to throw either, yes.

Do I remember that the last time we looked for a HC, all we came up with was Slick Willie, yes.

Am I aware that there are multiple high end programs looking for a coach now, yes

Would I hire Lane Kiffin, yes in a second.

Is this the time to look for an new coach with a 9-2 record and chance at Rose Bowl, I'd say NO

Over expectations of a deluded fanbase, probably.

Curious as to what took place with Micah Pittman, yes.

    Does Mario win, yes..............................

  8. So happy to see us move the ball like this.

But,  Go Anthony!    Disappointing we do know have qb ready to go who is a bit better passer.

    Go ducks!

An defense lol      well that is another subject doe another time .  Are we safe with a 14 point lead at any time?
