Not a dumb question at all. The read key is the OLB, but it’s the MLB that’s crashing on the scrape. They also bring a corner of I’m remembering correctly.

I do understand some of the frustration with Brown’s decisions on option plays, but to be fair, he has shown great decision making on this particular option this year. Where I’ve noticed he doesn’t make good decisions are in the speed option variety. He calls his number far too often in the speed option than he should. Because of his ability to run, the RB is usually in the better position. I think this stems back to where he got away with it against Fresno on the last play. He was able to fake the defender on that one and get a TD when the read probably really called for a pitch. Ever since, he has basically tried to do the speed option himself.

Yeah, it’s a great package that uses the strengths of the offense well. And tempo could definitely be a nice too, but Coach Moorhead has always kind of done that sometimes up tempo, sometimes check with me type tempo.

I think that with an off-season under his belt with Coach Moorhead, he’ll be really good in the offense. Didn’t he arrive after spring ball was halted this past season? Also there’s something that I spotted during the game that I really liked. It’s just a small part of one play, but watch the screen pass at 1:10. His body language doesn’t give away that it’s a screen at all. His drop and eyes make it seem like it’s a downfield pass until he throws it to the RB.

I haven’t read the article yet, but I’m willing to bet that the conclusion is that he creates turnovers through pressures. His blitz packages are something that really get your attention.

I’m pretty well on record of not believing that Coach Moorhead was restricted. I don’t really see anything between this past season’s film and the PSU film. But I do know that people speculate that, and it’ll just have to be something they answer for themselves. I do think that Mcgee with be a playmaker though!

Eventually he’ll carry the ball more. But while the backfield is crowded, you’ll see him at different spots. They’re going to find a way to get him on the field. You see Coach Feld kind of tease him about his smaller stature?

I like it even better now. And I was thinking for individual players it was an average between the the three sites, as opposed to team rankings.

I think that Seven Mcgee is going to be a stud in Coach Moorhead’s offense. I think the things he started to do with Redd in the second half of the year is going to expand this season. When I’m four wide this season, I think Redd will line up as the field slot and Mcgee will be at the tight boundary slot/slot back spot. He’ll be awesome in those jet packages.

When I’m just keeping tabs on recruiting for myself, I usually look at the 247 composite which is an average between 247, Rivals and ESPN’s rankings.

The things he touched on, from a scheme standpoint , are pretty much what we’ve been talking about here. Doesn’t have a base front doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a base defense. It just means that the personnel package that he uses for base allows him to be in different fronts. He talked about how KT is going to be in the same position that Von Miller was, the joker. Said he won’t be a 4i, which is the down DE. He gave us new terminology too. The LB/S hybrid that we have been calling the Sam, he calls the star.

Pretty cool!

He may be a fit. He’d still need the off-season putting on weight. The guy that manned the position at Cal was 235, for example. Or he could me one of those smaller LBs that just thrive.

Troy Dye is a guy that popped into my head. I think he could man the position really well.

Maybe, though I’d be pretty surprised if he changed what he’s done philosophically now that he’s at Oregon. Of course I don’t know that for sure. All we have to go on right now is what he’s always done. And I’m not saying that this is what you mean, but I don’t see zone coverage as a band-aid. Especially when you’re zone blitzing. It’ll be fun to watch.

This could always be a possibility, but if I’m just going off of game tape, that hasn’t been the case for Coach DeRuyter. From what I’ve seen, he always keeps the same personnel in unless he’s in his 2-4-5 set. The personnel set in his scheme is what let's him be flexible without having to sub. And I think I maybe led us astray when I listed of safeties that could play the position. The Sam is not a safety, he is a LB that has a safety-like skill set. Think Lamar Winston. I just wanted to throw out some names like Hill who could put on the weight to play the position. In no way do I realistically think that all of those guys would play the position. The depth there could be made up of safeties who put on weight and lighter LBs with good coverage ability. The position also won’t be asked to play man coverage a great deal. The majority of Coach DeRuyter’s defense is zone coverage.

We’ve learned that the Sam LB position in Coach DeRuyter’s defense is a “big safety”. There are a few current players at safety that could fill the spot, including Hill, Williams and Happle. In another post ChicoDuck also suggested incoming freshman Jeffery Bassa. The one thing is that all four of these guys would need to put on weight this off-season. Currently, they sit around 200lbs each. You’d like them to be in the 220-225 range. I also want to take a look at current OLB and see which guys possess more safety-like skill sets.

And that’s not to say that he’s there. He’s not, and he has plenty of room for improvement. But given the situation of the 2020 season, I think we should pump the brakes on tossing him to the side. Whoever wins the QB competition, I’m here for it.

I honestly think we’re being a little harsh when talking about Shough’s season. His first year starting stats are very similar to Justin Herbert’s. This was in one of the toughest season to ever happen to college sports. I understand he was sophomore and Herbert was a freshman, but he was new in this offense and didn’t exactly have to most ideal situations to learn it in. I'm also a fan of AB. I’m sure whoever comes out of camp will be the best guy for the job.

It’s funny because I get this sport, but when I watch basketball I have no idea what’s going on outside of the very elementary aspects.

Does being the primary recruiter for three 4-star, and one highly regarded 3-star, RBs still mean that Coach Mastro can’t recruit?

I can’t find a great reason for that. Coach Wilcox cited staff continuity, as other teams were trying to hire Coach Sirmon away and giving him play-calling duties kept him. Coach DeRuyter probably agreed, but would probably rather call the plays, which is why he’s now at Oregon.
