So after 10 days of radio silence from the big 10 I got a bunch of emails this morning, the main one was notifying me they have manually added me to the offer (see below). So positive outcome but a long wait and a bit of a hassle. I am glad they did the right thing--eventually. ----------- Marriane (B1G+) Sep 9, 2024, 07:13 GMT+2 Hi there, Thanks for providing the screenshot of the coupon / offer that you received. So I got into a Looooong chat with B1G customer service. Net: 1) They say the promotional code "MIGHTYOREGON24" is intended only for targeted email recipients, not the general public. 2) They (tried to) argue the article is a public notification of the promotion, not access to the promotion itself I was having none of that. I politel shared my opinion that their interpretation was hard to defend, given how the article was written and that it contained the promotional code itself. I supplied screen shots and links to the article. I also told them I thought they could face lousy PR and blowback from Oregon fans if they tried to take that approach broadly. My outcome was the representative created a new ticket for me and escalated it. I am awaiting that outcome and will share it here when I have it.

Okay I did a little research on this topic and gorey details are below, but the net is this: Duck lips are not banned by NCAA or Autzen stadium rules. Big10 appears to have a vague but broad policy against "irritants" which might be interpreted to include noisemakers. Sooo...I interpret this as a grey area that should be exploited and I advocate for a mass duck lips revival at the Ohio State game. I mean, what's the worst that could happen, they get "officially" banned again? But wouldn't it be soo worth it? Autzen Stadium Policies NCAA Playing Rules: No Rule Against Duck Lips Artificial Noisemakers in Sports for which the NCAA Writes Rules (Updated September 2019) Football. Persons subject to the rules, including bands, shall not create any noise that prohibits a team from hearing its signals. No one in the team area or coaching box may use any artificial sound amplification to communicate with players on the field. BIG10: Grey Area (Policies for Championship Game 2023 at Lucas Oil Stadium, can't find a general policy reference) Certain items may not be brought into the premises, including without limitation, alcohol, drugs, controlled substances, cameras, recording devices, laser pointers, strobe lights, irritant, bundles and containers. There are people arguing that noise-makers are an irritant, along with Giant flags, etc. but the Big10 leaves it up to each stadium to enforce it's policies.

I agree that Neu-weasel's comments in this article appear more complimentary than things he has said in the past. But here is the context and why I think he is still being a jerk even when he's seeming to play nice. This article is a follow up to his prior comments about oregon having "unlimited" NIL money from Phil Knight. In that article he says nothing about the program building and coaching over many years, giving the impression that Oregon is just a checkbook. This article as an attempt to "clean that up" as there has been pushback from several quarters and Neuweasel wants to protect his (limited) credibility. But what does he do? 1) He spends the first half of the article talking about our NIL checkbook from Uncle Phil. 2) Then he 'casually' mentions the 1996 Cotton bowl. - A game where Colorado blew out the Ducks 38-6. - And a game where Neuweasel calls for a fake punt with Colorado leading 32-6 late in the fourth quarter. - Was there any need to mention this in making a relevant point for the article? No, it's just a fart in our general direction. 3) *Then* he starts to talk in more detail about the Ducks long and sustained effort to build the program to what it is today. This is called "burying the lede." In journalism this is putting the most significant information in a story down the page where many won't bother to read it. He could have done this a different and better way. But chose the path of jerkiness. Because he's a jerk.

Sorry It's behind a paywall now for me too, but it wasn't when I posted it.

What Oregon’s Dan Lanning said at Big Ten football media days WWW.OREGONLIVE.COM Follow live updates of Dan Lanning's time at Big Ten media days

Of course he buries the lede...and casually mentions the 1996 Cotton bowl in passing as a drive by. Rick Neuheisel expounds on remarks about Oregon’s ‘unlimited NIL’ resources: ‘I wish we all had a Phil’ Knight WWW.OREGONLIVE.COM ”Coaches that I talk to all have this impression that Oregon has the most,” Neuheisel said, “and the most is a good place to be in that department.” If he was a hobbit his name would be Jerky-baggins.

Will This Forever Haunt You as an Oregon Fan?
Dav3d replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I was there at the game in Phoenix and couldn't believe those two calls. Still gets me a little worked up thinking about it: the only thing worse is a mention of Rick Neuheisel. Makes me twitch. -
Live Updates from Oregon's 2024 Spring Football Game
Dav3d replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Says you can get the spring game on Fubo, but I can't find it... -
As a former member of the OMB I must respectfully disagree. Yes both are 2/4 march time in G major with a lot of brass emphasis, but it's kind of like saying "all marches sound the same" - might as well blame John Phillip Sousa for that. Mighty Oregon was originally a longer piece: today we only play the chorus (the lyrics have changed too). Yes, yale has been around much longer than University of Oregon but Cole Porter's copyright on Bulldog is 1911. Albert Perfect's copyright (and the first known performance) of "The Mighty Oregon March" is 1916. So I think the implication that Mighty Oregon is derivative of bulldog is a bit arrogant on the part of your Yalie friend. If anything, Perfect was said to be influenced by "It's a Long way to Tipperary." I stand by my fart comment.

A Yalie said our fight song sounds like theirs? He must be sniffing Handsome Dan's farts.

I thought this might be an April fool's joke but the article is dated 4/2. I don't see this being picked up anywhere so assuming it's BS, but...wow. The Oregon State Beavers are following their big brother to the Big Ten AUTZENZOO.COM The Beavers are accompanying the Oregon Ducks in their conference realignment. Apparently, Oregon State wants its 15 seconds of fame too.
