  1. Oh the good old days, and they were good. I remember watching the NFL back in the 70's, and there was a much different feel to it, and baseball and basketball too. But back then, a player making $100,000 a year was big news. Yesterday Matt Scherzer signed a deal with the Mets, 130 M for 3 years! Damian Lillard makes about 50 M per, the Blazers are just good enough to stay out of the Lottery. And of course money has brought about what we have in college football. The Playoff is a television production that killed off bowl games. Can't really blame a player from looking to the NFL instead of playing in the Safeway Re-useable Bag Bowl, Dec.16 at 11 in the morning on TBS.
  2. I've had that sense about Mario as well. He seems determined to build a championship at Oregon. Putting hours and energy to get it done. Miami would mean starting over again, and that doesn't seem to fit.
  3. For better or much worse actually, we have only to look at Mel T, who in what, 5 years has coached for two teams, hasn't won anything, but is now in the top 6? of highest paid coaches.
  4. It didn't even make it to Oklahoma with Riley.
  5. Jon, this of course is what we know to be the case, Stanford couldn't care less about football. ASU has Herm, and is fine with him. UCLA is a basketball school, USC is a front runner. Cal? What is Cal, and of course Washington, with its great history
  6. No, I don't think Notre Dame's AD is thinking of Cristobal, and OK.? We don't like what he's doing on offense, so he's going to bring that to OK, following Riley? It's bad enough that they'll be in the SEC, which is why Riley is at SC.
  7. This is the thing. A Stepping-stone school and perennial Playoff contender do not go together. With a Commitee perception is even more a reality, and Oregon can not have any second string labels attached to it.
  8. Utah will be ready, but they won't have all the extra factors, besides the altitude, that pumped up their performance in SLC, and Oregon is 4-0 in Championship Games, Utah is 0-2.
  9. According to CBS Sports Shehan Jeyarajah Lincoln Riley to USC: What the hire says about LSU, Oklahoma's SEC Move and the Pac-12's Future? The league has lacked a true blueblood contender, point blank. That could change.
  10. First, the opinions of Mike and Jon are not mutually exclusive, they actually are linear. Mario has improved this season, but still has a way to go. The recruiting hasn't dropped off while Mario has shown growth in other area's His offense will never be a blur, but this season, with a limited QB, has been less of a Grind it out, than previously.
  11. Another Coordinator who didn't fare well as the head coach. We know that he's a great recruiter. Washington is definitely upgrading the coaching staff. '
  12. Following the idea of doing more with less, compared to the "Regulars" in the Playoffs, Oregon is doing really well. As great as Mario has done with recruiting, the roster is not up to that of Alabama, Oh. St, Georgia. Besides whatever we may think of the Invitational, Oregon is not yet at the level of Alabama, Georgia, OH. ST. to expect a CFP at the end of the season..
  13. Does Oregon want to lose the Two Time Conference winning coach, and find somebody else who might lose to Stanford again, and not win any conference titles for a while. The salary increase wouldn't just be for this, so far 10 win season, but to maintain what has been successful moving forward.
  14. Tasty Nuggets indeed, Early Signing Day is approaching, and Coach's agents are busy! That was a great group of Recruits at the game against the Beavers, and Oregon's commits are holding steady after Riley's move to USC.
  15. This is the biggest overhaul that Altman has had to undertake at Oregon. Richardson was supposed to be the leader, again picked on the 1st team before the season, but his own game needs work before he's the point guard the Ducks need. A lot of new players is tricky. But with Altman's system, not only do the new players have to come together, Altman's teams also all have to "buy In". That is what has Altman's teams peaking in February and March. If this BIG team can do that, all will be well.
  16. Riley leaves Oklahoma after playoff appearances and consecutive Heisman winners, partly because he saw a better chance of keeping that going at USC then with Oklahoma in the SEC. Meanwhile, Kelly leaves The Mecca of Football, Notre Dame, to go to the SEC. Of course, LSU won the championship under Saban, Les Miles, and Ed Orgeron. Winning and $$$ go with these two. Is Luke Fickell, who beat Notre Dame, going to leave Cincinnati and be the next coach? The Golden Dome has a lot more money than does Cincinnati.
  17. If salary Michigan State, which has more money than does Oregon needed boosters to handle the deal with Tucker. A deal that showed a Coach's salary is not based on merit.
  18. I agree that giving it to the Conference Champ lacks nuance, but should it be a disqualification? Good job JS for exceeding expectations at OS.
  19. It has been a QB monopoly lately, McCaffrey should have won, Toby Gerhart had a Heisman worthy year in 2009. I feel like the "Honey Badger", Tyran Mathiu of LSU, should have won it in 2011. I will never recover from Johnny Football winning the Heisman.
  20. Kayvon Thibodeaux isn't going to win it. But this could, and maybe should, be the year when the Heisman goes to somebody besides a quarterback.
  21. I respect what Dickert did during a tumultuous time at WSU, and Smith looks to have the Beavers headed in the right direction. Dickert was formally hired at WSU, and Smith was given an extension, to keep it moving up at OSU. So congratulations to both of them. But COY for this year? If Dickert and the Cougars had beaten Cristobal and Oregon and won the North, he'd have a great case for COY, but that didn't happen. Smith went 7-5, 1 and 5 on the road. Those are not numbers that say COY.
  22. Everybody knows that UW is a Women's Crew School!
  23. If Riley wants USC and the Coliseum to be" The Mecca" of college football, then great. Madison Square Garden and the Knicks have long been called "The Mecca" of basketball. The Knicks haven't won a championship since Walt Frazier and Willis Reed were playing in 1973, Or how about "America's Team" the Dallas Cowboys, no Super Bowl win for them since 1995. Coaches all talk optimistically about how things are going to be great. USC, LA, the hype is in overdrive. and as Haywarduck has observed, expect the Trojans to lead the Pre-season Parade.
