  1. Interesting topic Haywarduck, and thanks for getting it going. (Everyone start a topic!)

I am leery of promising other sports because it dilutes the player's potential in both. However offering some fullback/running back opportunities as we've spoken of with Sewell makes sense.

I think your idea of tight end is a good one, and he would actually last longer with less body damage, although Cam McCormick might disagree with that.  Yet if he can become a dominating defensive tackle--big paychecks await, and I think he should focus entirely on that and become the best that he can.

But I see your reasoning for recruiting...interesting stuff to ponder.

I was afraid to login because I thought maybe I was "that" guy?!!

You made me smile.  Trust me...if you were that guy?  You would certainly know it with the email discussions we would have had by now.  Moderating is done privately, but not in a knee-jerk reaction.  It is a discussion of conveying our MO on this site, and rarely do I have to blacklist someone off the site.  Usually they decide that this site is not a match-up for them and leave on their own after they have learned we are serious about our rules.

  3. Whew!  Big questions that frankly--the future of Oregon football is hinged upon IMHO.

--Will Cristobal realize you have to score a boatload of points to win the big games?

--Will Cristobal let the Coordinators do their job and he focus on recruiting, culture and PR?

The difference between being nine-win team and a 12 to 14 win team is dependent upon how he addresses those questions.

Great stuff, and fantastic first post Massduck!  Welcome!

Where's the writer's bio and hat tip to the editor for this article? It's a nice piece and I wanted to refresh my memory on Alex's background.

Alex Heining is our Editor-in-Chief, and has been for over six months now.  He is a student at UO and has had a superb internship at FishDuck as both parties have benefited greatly from the working relationship.  He has learned an enormous amount about sportswriting, editing, media management and in particular--human behavior and how to manage a group of people much older than himself.

It is a great example of how well an internship can work for all involved, as he puts in the equivalent of a couple of classes of time each week into the site making sure that articles are published correctly.  The best part is that he is a nice fellow with an easy personality to work with and that will serve him well over time.

If anyone else wants to learn about Media Management and wants to help--email me and I promise you will learn a ton and enjoy it.

Why are the Reader and Editor Bio Removed?

They and the "Other Suggested Articles" have been removed in order to allow the announcement at the bottom to come up snug against the end of the article.  We are trying to inform everyone about the new forum and have them come over here to make comments.  It did not go well at first, and this was one of three adjustments we made.  It is not a compromise I am completely comfortable with, but it is something that has to be done for now.  If there are other questions--people can email me charles@fishduck.com and I'll explain our short-term plans.

  5. OK...I am shamed by your placing time perspective to those points; would the Fab Five doubled up Cal? Doubt it, but your point demonstrates that I did not give them enough credit.  Good catch and THANKS.

The "Fab 5" scored their 41 points in 94 minutes of the game time played. Cal scored all 41 points in the 200 minutes of game played. Nuf said!

    * The staff is working towards more sturdy RBs. It only appears this year to want a RB if it was an elite kid or bust, which might indicate not an urgent recruiting priority (which again might mean there is some good faith in Dollars and Benson soon).

You have great research and I respect your conclusions, but I will politely disagree.  I am a big believer in "Greatness and Weakness Emerge Early" as we saw with Freeman, Barner, LMJ, Droughns, (first game vs. Saban and MSU) and the list continues. If we had a great, elite running back between those two you mention--we would know it by now.  Dollars looks good, but he does not have breakaway speed of Barner, LMJ or Droughns for example.

We do not have an elite RB IMHO, and it is a recruiting whiff that is unexplainable to me.  I wrote about it before right here.

My Point: The flu is extremely deadly IN SPITE OF half the population being vaccinated and we don't take any precautions regarding stadium entrance. Once new COVID cases are down to about the normal flu caseload, the number of people dying from COVID is unlikely to be any higher than that of the flu... ESPECIALLY if half the population gets the vaccination.

I am very grateful to all the views and all the information presented in this thread. And Jon--that is helpful for so many of us to be aware of.  THANKS.

The rest of the teams are on notice. UCLA & Stanford needed to play their best games of the season to get wins over this Ducks team that is still learning to play together.  There will be rematches this season, and next season the Lady Ducks will be even better.

I cannot help but wonder what the upside ultimately is!
