  1. You know, it is funny you mention that because I forgot all about it. Why? Because I have not watched one in 20 years, if not longer. I believe I watched one and thought, "this is stupid," and would fast forward through them every year since. I take that back; I did watch one, Tom Petty, and came away highly disappointed. Love his music, and RIP Tom.
  2. Chad Simmons the National Director of Recruiting at On3 reported that highly coveted 2025 recruit Nasir Wyatt postponed his planned trip to visit Florida this weekend, in order to visit Oregon in this big recruiting weekend. This was due to a personal visit by Dan Lanning, who convinced him of this change in travel plans. This is pretty powerful stuff, that while appears minor...is NOT something we have seen at Oregon in the past. Not even from Taggart or Cristobal in recruiting. Then I saw a post by Flyingsouth on the On3 site that described what might be going on quite well: "Lanning is a Rock Star who is still rising in College Football. With Saban and Harbaugh exiting the scene, there is a vacuum at the top. I can’t think of another coach with more swagger, cachet, and name recognition right now. Smart has the great record but Lanning has a more dynamic personality to cash in on any successes on the recruiting trail and in season success that Oregon achieves. His relatable youthful personality coupled with Oregon’s innovative brand and Social media and marketing department is a winning combination. Throw in CDL’s willingness to never miss an opportunity to promote the program, see the only visiting coach to be on set for College Gameday, and CDL being the main coach pregame of the National Title Game, and the Bama coaching rumors (If you are worried about your coach leaving?) as prime examples. The future is Bright and Green in Eugene! Wowsa. I think that is an observation that few of us thought of...that two of the most powerful recruiters in college football are gone, and that is a wide-open opportunity for Oregon and all up-and-coming programs to fill the void. I do not see the new coach at Michigan, Alabama or even Ohio State keeping up with Lanning over the longer term. Look at the final top 25 for 2023 and think of the coaches who can challenge Lanning as the best recruiter? While there are no guarantees in this recruiting business...this new void at the top assures to me--that Dan Lanning is going have an even better chance at a top five recruiting class every year. Kirby is formidable, but he does not have Lanning's warmth, charm and energy. Good gosh...everything lining up well for Our Beloved Ducks!
  3. While I am repulsed by the camera shots to the stadium box where Travis Kelce's friends and family are after a KC score....would TV executives try to capitalize on that further? I mean, if they announced in advance that cameras will be IN the box, along with mics....wouldn't that pull millions of Taylor Swift fans to watch the telecast? Now I get how pulling in millions more viewers helps the ratings, and that much more mega-charging of advertisers....but it also could enlarge the NFL audience among her fans? Become KC fans at the minimum? Look, I know you're feeling a gag-response as you read this, but I am often fascinated by marketing angles. Seems to me that promoting this is a no-brainer, that there is tremendous upside for the NFL, and the downside, well, we can look away. (I simply fast-forward on my DVR) Think this will happen?
  4. "If you’re one of those people who thought Sanders would have learned something from his first season as a Power Five coach, you were wrong." "...this is the same man who said he wished they 'had a little more privacy' last season." You can't make this stuff up! Isn't he the opposite of Dan Lanning? Truly playing for the clicks?
  5. Going head-to-head with Ohio State in recruiting? Lanning is incredible...
  6. David, I think this was a brilliant call on your part, and now it all makes much more sense. Lanning was looking at the weak spots on the team, and at the coaching staff to see how to improve. Once he saw the skills of how Hampton was coaching corners, and Brian Mich. for linebackers...that made corner coach Meat Martin expendable so Lanning could have direct coaching to the inside linebackers. Great call. This also may be a preference by Lanning, as he sees the inside linebackers as crucial in his blitz packages--from what I've studied, thus they have a tough set of assignments between stopping the run, defending the pass, and being skillful at blitzes. A coach dedicated to inside linebackers might be more crucial to his defensive philosophy, than a dedicated corners coach. Under Bellotti, Helfrich and Chip....I recall how we had separate linebacker coaches, (Pellum) and how Nick Aliotti managed both the safeties and corners as "Defensive Back" coach. Effectively, Lanning is adjusting his coaching staff to his 4-2-5 MINT defense, and their respective skills. Lanning has known Mich. for a long time, and Dan has shown an ability for finding great young coaching talent. Green Blitzes: Lanning Begins the New Mint Defense at Oregon |... FISHDUCK.COM For the first time in nearly a decade–watching the defense at Oregon is going to be highly entertaining again due to the new Mint defense and pressure packages…
  7. Look how he pulls from the center position and makes two blocks including a Pancake!
  8. I was talking to NJDuck recently, and was recalling how one of the media sources reported how Oregon "scored the most points of any FBS team in the US." So, then how are we No. 2 officially in scoring? I looked it up, and the answer is because LSU did not play in a conference championship game, and their average per game was based on 13 games (45.5) versus Oregon's average was over 14 games. (44.2) What is interesting is looking at the NCAA list with some surprises and omissions from the top in scoring. For example...look who is No. 3! Imagine if they'd had a defense? Where is Alabama...and where is Ohio State? Georgia's placing was a surprise to me as well. Bottom line? We should be very proud of the offense in 2023, and I suspect we have more fireworks to come as Stein continues to grow into his position. 9. Good gosh, what a great article! This is a can-of-worms that nobody thought of, and the cost could be enormous. Trying to get exceptions will end up in court? WOWWWW. Mike, this gives us so much to think about, and I am grateful you are applying your field of expertise to this subject. THANK YOU.

  11. Can't post as much my Duck-Buddies, as I'm up to my ears with moving nonsense. C'mon--the rest of you can jump in and start something interesting! Some tasty tidbits to share.... Lanning is CRUSHING it!
  12. Jon, this is a GREAT article to best illustrate the murder's-row of games the Dawgs would have to play. We have a tough schedule too, but not like theirs or Alabama's next year. This is going to be life in a Super-Conference, and we all have to get used to it. Epic Games Ahead!
  13. Look at the accuracy rate of both of them making this prediction, and the fact that they are both making the same crystal ball prediction? Not a guarantee, but pretty darn good!
  14. "Shady" is now a relative term dependent upon which time period you are referring to. I think this whole NIL thing IS quite shady, but this is how it is, and Oregon has adapted to the new landscape and flourished. I sense that Oregon is more "competitive" in their NIL offerings than last year, as my theory is that Phil may have decided to "go-for-it" and thus donated a ton to the NIL pot for distribution. (Division Street) I have no idea if I am correct, but Phil is getting up there, we have momentum, Lanning is killing it and the dots seem to connect. So...if we are now quite close or beating offers by Texas A&M for example...then Oregon will continue to succeed in the portal. Even then, we have missed on some great ones in the portal, so my theory is very much in doubt.
