  1. The system, 4 spots for 5 P5 champs was flawed from the start. The only reason it has not been more chaotic is that the Pac-12 has not produced playoff-quality teams for many of the 10 playoff seasons. Thank you, Counselor Whitty. IMO the best thing about being a retired attorney is by far, being retired. When your profession comes in lower than that of used car salesmen it is not a good look. In a car accident? Please do not call 1- 800- Jon - Jose. Ole!
  2. In theory, even though he is in the portal, Ty could play in the Fiesta Bowl. Utah QB Barnes is in the portal and will play for Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl. Gabriel is not eligible to play in the 2024 Fiesta Bowl,
  3. Charles, I think that Chip did a terrible job with the young man's development. He did throw for quite a few yards in limited action but he was an INT machine. The entire Bruins O and there were injuries at the QB position, seemed to be out of sync this season. DTR was a terrific college QB and he has played well for the Browns. Chips buyout drops significantly in mid-December. UCLA to date has 11 commits in the 2024 class. The UCLA AD is not happy about this and is also not happy with Chip's relationship with Bruins boosters. Still lots of good coaching candidates out there including Liberty's Chadwell. 13-0 at Liberty and a lot of success at Coastal Carolina. It also doesn't help that Chip's DC who put a solid D on the field at UCLA in 2023 is headed crosstown to USC.
  4. No surprise. Best of luck to Ty.
  5. At least 50% of a school's scholarship athletes would have to be paid with Title 9 athletes being included. The minimum 'trust fund' buy-in works out to $6M. Although it is styled as a trust fund, players will receive money when in school. It's a ways from fruition but it will happen. And it will put pressure on schools like Arizona and UCLA with athletic departments deep in red ink. And also puts pressure on schools that do not want to be employers. Baker and the NCAA see the writing on the wall and more litigation coming. With the inclusion of Title 9 athletes, the plan could receive Congressional support and relief from actions by the NLRB and the lawyers. With 50% of the athletes required to be paid the easy remedy will be to eliminate several sports. One way or another, a Super League is coming.
  6. Penix won the Maxwell Award. But I think Daniels, in part because of the SEC factor, will win the Heisman. Several NFL draft gurus have moved Daniels to the 2nd QB taken behind Drake Maye and ahead of Williams. I don't see this happening.
  7. Yes, he's outstanding. Close to 15,000 pass yards to date and the winning drive against Texas was masterful. He stays healthy vs. Kansas and Oklahoma goes 11-1, plays Texas in the B12 title game, and wins and it would have been Oklahoma vying for the Final 4. Check out the metrics and there is a good case for 2-loss Oklahoma to be ranked above 2-loss Oregon (sorry), Missouri, Penn State, and Ole Miss. Based on the final rankings, Oklahoma had this season's best win over three Texas. Dillon is far more athletic than Rattler, much more elusive in the pocket, and far more accurate on downfield throws.
  8. The past, present, and future walk into a bar. It was tense. Man, things have changed and changed in a hurry. Give Reggie his Heisman back. And give Lincoln more bad pennies. You too Carol!
  9. I'm so happy to be beamed back up onto the OBD Mother Ship! Thanks, Charles, et al.
  10. The bird flu will hurt Puddles more than this. Best of luck in Starkville.
  11. Washington IMO is the rival now. Drop a home game to play in Corvallis against the G5.2. Why? Every season in the B1G will finish with a game vs. UW. Often with a B1G champ game and a playoff bid on the line. Help someone out who is suing you and calls you everything but a red-headed stepchild. There's charity, and then there is this. I feel bad for the small business people in Eugene/Springfield who are going to miss a payday because of this decision. The folks who already had room deposits down for the Texas Tech game. What kind of reception do you think Oregon fans will receive in Corvallis from unspooled Beavers fans? I hope it will not matter that Rob swapped a home game vs. a P4 opponent for a MW opponent when Boise is already on the schedule. Rob is being paid a $1M plus including his bonus for this? BTW, check out the record of many UW teams that former Oregon coaches owned. Before DeBoer and other than for Coach Pete, the UW record was ugly. It's a new day with a new conference rival.
  12. How about 'Mom?' I kid, we all know that UW is a great academic institution by the Lake, right Jimmy?
  13. Catching Brutus is no easy task.
  14. To date, all rumors. Lincoln Riley did pay a visit to Howard in Kansas. We know Gabriel is visiting Eugene but USC is also on his tail. Cam Ward to tOSU rumors are rampant; likely one of the reasons that McCord is in the portal. UW has been linked repeatedly to Rogers. OREGON, SC, and tOSU have the NIL money to pull the rumored moves off. Washington? Chip's buyout drops significantly in mid-December. If he is retained, who will UCLA bring in? Can UCLA afford top QB NIL money?
  15. I don't know how the Committee will go. UW had more top-25 wins than Michigan, a team that played a joke of an OOC slate, finishes behind the Wolverines, and plays in New Orleans and not in Pasadena. Liberty with the 133 SOS out of 133 teams is in a NY 6 bowl. With 2Ls, Oregon would be in the 2024 playoff field. With 3Ls like LSU, Oregon would be left out. On the other hand, Texas is in because the SEC champ was not going to be PO benched and Texas beat Bama. I want to see how the Committee handles SOS compared to simply wins and losses before ramping up a schedule that has Oregon playing MW champ Boise, Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and UW in 2024. IMO, that's more than enough meat on the scheduling bone. Many a hero is awarded the medal posthumously.
  16. I'm all in on the portal news and activity. As important today in many respects as is recruiting. USC signs QB Howard, and UW signs QB Rogers, Ohio State signs Cam Ward, you know that I want OREGON to sign Gabriel and have him blow his horn in Eugene next season. 3 QBs contending for the Heisman tomorrow night. None of the 3 would have been in contention if they had not transferred and Oregon and UW would not be playing in NY 6 bowls (and making $ for the Pac-2?)
  17. That was the 2016 playoff game, DUH! At my age, I am in no hurry to advance the seasons.
  18. Thank you for the great comments and the accolades. It is great to be participating in this great OBD community as a writer, joining a terrific group of scribes. I am sad at the 0-3, but I am happy to see many of the comments giving DeBoer his just due. 1st Pac-12 coach to run the Pac-12 schedule and title game since the Pac-10 went to the Pac-12. The HC of the only Pac-12 team to Playoff repeat. Hopefully, he will fare better vs. Texas than UW did against Bama in the 2026 Peach Bowl. In 2014, Oregon played a team from Dixie, FSU, in the Rose Bowl. Which was nice. With Georgia's loss to Alabama ending the Dawgs 29-game winning streak, the Seattle Huskies lead the nation in consecutive wins at 20. Friend Happy, in his comment, pointed out the incredible record that DeBoer has as a head coach. I don't care if it's Sioux Falls or Niagara Falls, it's one heck of a record. I can't go against Liberty so instead, Go Ducks! Extinguish the Flames!
  19. 'Pig Farmer' Barnes is in the portal and is playing QB for Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl vs. Northwestern.
  20. "On par" (something I am not familiar with) equates exactly to the rookie earning scale, right? That's a leap in interpretation, no? And the 2 would not be gaining a year toward their 1st free-agent contract and a huge payday. I don't see this happening but some Sparty boosters paid an untested coach almost $100M. I hope this doesn't happen. I don't want to see these 2 in Autzen next season. I especially do not want to watch Cam Ward throwing to Harrison. Harrison is a Heisman finalist with an OK, not great, QB in McCord. With a guy like Ward at the wheel? And Ohio State's run game was much better when Henderson was healthy. NFL-Lite is coming and likely faster than we can predict.
  21. Blame it on Oregon! Oregon State loses pair of starting defenders to NCAA transfer portal SATURDAYOUTWEST.COM A pair of Oregon State defenders have entered the portal.
  22. Florida State is being talked about a lot for Moore as is the home-state Michigan. He was out of his element in year one. On him or Chip and the Bruins staff? He did get the opportunity to start a few games for UCLA and he was a turnover machine.
  23. Bummer. This instead of the Power 2? Ralphie must have showed this kid a lot of buffalo skins.
