Demonstrating they had no business in the playoff in the first place.

We all knew this.  Football is not basketball.  There are no Cinderellas in football.  You are elite, or you are ordinary.

We're about to witness not only how ordinary the G5 is, but how ordinary the majority of the SEC is.

I agree, but the game hasn't been played, yet. They're just kids. Anything can happen.

Personally,  I'd love to see Bama and Georgia knocked out.

  2. I was rehearsing a what if scenario...

Utah cancels due to Covid protocol.

    Okie cancels...

Oregon moves to the Rose to face Ohio State.

Then I saw the Buckeyes players that are opting out and the scenario quickly disintegrated.

Even the Rose Bowl is going to be another Meh Bowl.

I may just opt out of the bowls and tackle some grandkids in the snow this weekend instead.

  3. If I were WSU...

I would contact every player in the portal and offer to fly them in to play the first ever all-star Sun Bowl against WSU.

At the least have both home and away jerseys shipped and play an intersquad game, rather than bag the whole game last minute.

Any other crazy ideas? Ideas don't cost anything...

  4. Always start/play your best players available on game day.

I can't imagine a coach doing anything differently unless the game is meaningless or as a result of a blowout score or the threat of injury warrants not playing the best.

Players need to earn their right to play.

Another question could be asked. What kind of message would be sent if the best player isn't allowed to play?

  5. Trust is very hard to earn and keep.

As a fan, I have to trust Mullens.

After thinking about how much emotion and energy goes into the discussions regarding CFB hires, recruits, game management, and play calling, I wondered how many of us even know who is driving our kids and grandkids (who probably are not wearing seatbelts) around in a school bus.

I have to trust the process and the people who administer the process, including the handling of those outsiders that try to manipulate it.

First of all let’s just stop with the nonsense that Oregon was the third best team in the country…..they weren’t even a top ten team, as was evidenced by one lackluster performance after another from the Ohio State game going forward.

I think Pittman quit on Oregon because he felt Oregon had quit on him.

Pittman was just one of many talented receivers on the team, and I’m sure he was also just one of several who were disgruntled. Receivers want to catch the ball….it’s really that simple. Sure, they block, they are used as decoys, but what they really want is to catch passes. And they can’t catch a pass if the quarterback can’t throw the ball. Is it any wonder, as Pittman intimated, that he was not at all the only unhappy player in the receivers room?

I’m hopeful that Lanning is not just giving lip service to opening up the offense. If he fails to follow through, more receivers may be moving on, and recruiting replacements could be challenging.

Oregon football became a national brand during the Chip Kelly years because it was exciting. Now it’s just…..blah! That needs to change.

He could have finished out the season. He could have had some highlight reel plays had he stayed.

BTW, "we" know they weren't one of the top 3 best teams, but they were rated #3. I feel like you are splitting hairs. So by being "rated" 3 at the time, there was a possibility they could get in to the CFP. Had AB played against Utah like he did OSU, the Ducks 'might' have have pulled out a miracle and be in it and Pittman could have been a hero. But he quit.

Meanwhile, I thought I saw Bill Belichick in Eugene yesterday!

Big belly laugh...I think because I know I'm not supposed to laugh? LOL

When I start to get emotional,  I deflect by turning to humor. Sometimes it's a bit dark. Still working on stuff.

I do appreciate this forum a great deal. It's even a safe place for non Duck fans as long as they aren't trolling.

I'd love to see more non Duck fans comment to help keep things in perspective.

Although, I think we all do that to ourselves and do it as well as expected.

    Cheers to all 🍻

I know that Im an old fart and mostly think old school but... I think Kids will want to come to a Chip led Oregon Duck football team.

To be honest, not too long ago I could not imagine a UCLA or USC coach "stepping down" to Oregon.

Whether he is actually interested or not, Oregon is a step up!

  9. There have been some interesting hypotheses (anyone else remember some math references in this forum?) regarding all the coach news.

One aspect to leaking out these stories is it may impact recruiting efforts at other schools negatively.  I'm not accusing any AD of doing that intentionally,  but it could be a desirable side effect when the AD is on the positive side.

What if this is Joe's interview for the job? What if he took the Akron gig out of frustration of the Cristobal micromanagement regime. AND it also wasn't a done deal that Cristobal was bouncing the Sunday after the Pac-12 Championship game. I believe they were still playing Monopoly with Miami at that time. Perhaps with the job open and no obvious candidate he may be given the shot to call the offense his way. McClendon is the interim HC sure, but that likely won't matter if Joe is calling the offense.

Thank you for the interesting angle.

  11. After reading so many posts and thinking it seems desperation is moving many toward settling for questionable characters, I would like to see Oregon pursue people like Brandon Staley with offers that would be VERY difficult to pass up.

Justin is going to be fine.

    It's only money, after all...
