What will be will be. While I would love to see the Ducks win a NC, I think we all may need to resign ourselves to the fact that the chances are actually quite slim.
Personally, I'm OK with that. For me, an NC isn't the end-all be-all. I'd rather have a team that strives to win, plays well, and is exciting and fun to watch,...but that may occasionally come up short against better opponents.
If we win a NC, great. If not, no sleep lost. I'm certain I'm an outlier here, but that's what I'd be most happy with.

I just saw a tweet that said Wilcox is also not in the mix for the U of O coaching vacancy.
I also saw a tweet that announced that Bryan "B Mac" McClendon has accepted a position on Cristobal's Miami football staff.
My question is: Does B Mac accepting the position with Miami cancel out his being interim Head Coach for Oregon in the Alamo Bowl?
I bet he still coaches the bowl game. I'd think Mario would want him to stick through the bowl game for the players sake. Let's hope.

Kiffin is interested in the Oregon opening so he contacts Canzano for assistance getting hooked up with the people at Oregon who matter.
But does this sound like it could be even remotely true? It's Lane Kiffen. It's not like he needs an introduction. I find this really hard to believe.

...his father said the his son was lied to.
I suspect it had more to do with Mario selling him on lots of passes coming his son's way. Probably the same sales message he used on the all the receiver recruits.
I really doubt he told them they'd spend most of their time blocking and running around as decoys. You know, the truth.

I couldn't stand the guy when he led the Huskies ("Scoreboard, baby!"), but he doesn't seem to be half bad anymore. Still, can't see him as a Duck.

Its not going to happen, but I'd take Chip in a heartbeat. He's a damn good coach - light years beyond Mario. And, heck, even when his teams lose, they're still fun to watch.
Kind of a dick? Yes. Great coach? Undeniable.

I have to admit to liking the Bellotti idea better.

I know some fans are angry and feel betrayed but this is also football.
I'm happy he's gone. I hated his offense, lack of coaching skills, and his unshakable determination not to learn from his mistakes.
I'm unhappy with the way he played everyone, pretending nothing was going on when it obviously was. At best you could term his post-game press conference as disingenuous. I'd call it something worse.
Let's remember that he made these comments after he'd been presented with PK's offer and let it sit idle all day. Reporters had asked him legitimate questions, and he was "dickish" in his responses until finally settling on this:
"Let's not create narratives as we sit here in this press conference." said Cristobal, whose Ducks lost to Utah twice in three weeks by a combined final of 76-17.
"Oregon is working on some stuff for me, that's what I have right now, and that's the extent of that conversation.
"If I had any plans, if I had a decision to make or if I had something to report, I would. If there is anything to report, I'd report it. I always have?'For a guy who presented himself as "Mr. Sincerity," he was anything but.
I suspect that has a lot to do with some fans feeling angry and betrayed. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the recruits he visited on Saturday feel the same way

Love him, or hate him, my trusty behind the scenes people in The Know tell me Mullens/Uncle Phil have been in negotiations with none other than Charles "Chip" Kelly. They want a quick hire to minimize damage and head off the exodus of players and recruits and Kelly is interested.
My sources are almost always right on the money. They told me in mid-November that Cristobal was having an illicit affair with Miami and that he was probably going to go.
Now you know...
Interesting. Never really cared for his personality, but loved watching his teams play football. I actually think he'd do quite well.

I am looking for the long haul. Someone who will be in Eugene for 10-15 years. I am not obsessed for a Natty. Be competitive, go to the Rose Bowl regularly. Put the joy back into a GAME. Keep a perspective of being part of an educational institution and not a football factory.
My 2 cents agrees with your 2 cents.

I can't blame Mario for leaving, but I don't think he's handled it well. Particularly for a guy who fancied himself to be such a straight shooter.

His agent would be less than great if he didn't create a bidding war for the services of his client.
Lots of money on both sides.
My father, rest his amazing soul, was a national union president. His negotiation skills and timing were exceptional. He organized a pay increase strike, for labor, that lasted from lunch to dinner. All on a very special day, Christmas Eve. The wealthy newspaper owner called him just as we sat down to eat Christmad Eve dinner. My Dad said he would be over after he finished dinner with the family.
Dad told Mom he would be back within the hour. He left, she cried because some previous negotiations had lasted days. 45 minutes later Dad was back. The strike was over and he had to get to work (swing shift)
Mom asked how did this happen so fast. Dad replied that the owner, William, asked him one question, what can we do to get this resolved? Dad said, well let me ask you one question? After you answer that question we can get started.
The question Dad asked: Tell me Bill, we have known each other 25 years now, do you want to be the first in your family to not print a Sunday Christmas Day edition newspaper since 1890?
At that moment the union got its pay raise and the 4th generation newspaper owner printed his coveted Christmas morning paper published.. Youngsters may not understand but that used to be the biggest, advertised edition of the year.
Timing....let the negotiations begin.. Mario and his agent are poised and timed between 2 sets of wealthy boosters.
At this moment it is good for Mario to be a Duck. Generational wealth awaits.
What a great story. Sounds like you're dad was quite a guy. Thanks for sharing.

What an ending. So close and yet so far - six more inches and they're in the playoffs.

Acknowledging something wasn’t working but, rather than adjusting, sticking with it anyway is the most revealing - and troubling - take-away from this presser.
Exacty. But let's be honest with ourselves, this is who he is. He's demonstrated it over and over again.

An out-of-the-park home run, Charles. I couldn't agree more. This is one of the biggest reasons I'm not a Mario fan. And I think it'll hurt us in the long run.
And, no, my negative opinion of Mario doesn't stem from being a "spoiled fan." My undergrad years (early 80s) were spent watching the Ducks lose and lose badly. And, back then, it always rained in Autzen Stadium.

Ritchie: Why UO’s Joe Moorhead May Jump to Akron by Steve and Eli Ritchie of SportsPac12
Do you think Mullens would have hired Cristobal had he known of the massive drop in offense that was coming? So...Moorhead was also sold one thing, and then surprised with something else?
People have been unhappy with me for suggesting that Cristobal snookered Mullens in his hiring interview. But the day of the Cristobal introductory press conference that I attended....I stayed afterward and spoke privately with Cristobal for 20 minutes. When I left...there was nobody in the world who had a better idea of what Mario planned on offense for Oregon.
And it was not what we have seen. Akron is not a coaching destination.....it is an escape.

Chip Deserves Another Chance to Recreate the Magic.
in Our Beloved Ducks
Posted
I'm not advocating for Chip's return, although I wouldn't necessarily be against it, but I do think Chip deserves much more credit for recruiting than he gets.
I'd suggest the exciting, fast-paced style of play that Chip employed and the success we saw under his leadership paid dividends years later when kids who grew up watching his teams, became recruits themselves.
How many of Mario's recruits said it was their dream to be Ducks? Many! Well I'd contend that those dreams were shaped by Chip, not Mario.
Conversely, I'd say that Mario's style of play would've hurt us down the road. I don't think it would've produced a NC. And I'm certain kids viewing it from a far wouldn't have had their dreams shaped by watching it.
My thoughts anyway.
