Auburn is a complete mess and it all revolves around a guy named Bobby Lowder. He’s the one who pushed Gus out the door. Then, he tried to lure Mario away, but he got his new contract from Oregon so that fell through. It was speculated that if Oregon hadn’t replaced Washington in the Pac 12 championship game then Auburn may have had a shot. It’s obviously a moot point nowadays.

If that isn’t enough, Lowder then tried to push his boy Kevin Steele for the Auburn job (some say Steele was also behind Gus’ firing), but that idea sent the fans into an uproar (#stopsteele). So, they hired Harsin who didn’t want Steele on his staff. Steele then went to Tennessee as DC for Pruitt which lasted 6 days. Pruitt was fired and Steele was named interim HC. The funny part is Gus goes to UCF to replace Heupel, who took the Tennessee job and promptly fired Steele.

I’m surprised Mario hired Steele because he doesn’t have the best reputation. However, this whole fecal extravaganza was started by Bobby Lowder because Gus didn’t beat Saban enough times. The only other school with worse boosters is Texas. If they don’t at least go to the playoffs next year Sark will be fired. You can count on it.

Wasn't Leavitt fired after his first year under Mario?  Avalos, Moorhead and Arroyo were all two seasons I believe.

Something like 90% of D-1 head coaches don't last six years so tenure among assistants will be even less.

Yes. Willie hired him as DC in 2017. Mario had him in 2018 before he fired him.

Amen to that, and FamilyofDucks--do post often and WELCOME!

And...Georgia had a 360 pound defensive tackle in the 'Natty, so maybe Coach Lanning wants a player who demands double-teams?  A true Nose-Tackle has been hard to recruit to Oregon because there are so few of them.

Yes, that moment was it for me. When Mario pretended the booing was at the team instead of him, I knew he was done at Oregon as a coach.

I haven’t been to a whole bunch of games at Autzen, but I’ve seen the crowd pretty angry and that Cal game wasn’t bad at all. That was just some grumbling.

I was at the Arizona game the day after Thanksgiving in 2010 when they were undefeated and ranked #1. Mike Stoops started going nuts on the refs about a targeting call against one of his players. Autzen gave him an earful. The more animated he got with the refs the louder the boos got. Great times.

  5. I treat it like a guy going to the NFL. If he doesn’t play for my favorite team he’s non-existent. I cheer for my team, but not really against any individual player on the other team. I appreciate what Herbert did for Oregon, but when he lines up against the Cowboys I hope his team loses. I’ll look at Dye the same way.

  6. I know Varsity Blues was a comedy, but if you played HS football in Texas there were parts of the movie that were very real. Coach Kilmer, the parents, fans and announcers were firmly based on reality. In fact, those announcers were the same announcers who were on the call of an ESPY winning play. Apparently, Jon Voight saw this footage and wanted them in the movie.

I feel pretty much the same as I did about Cyrus Moss and all the Taggart decommits. It’s the kids decision where they go to school.

Are they committed to the school or the coach? Whatever they feel, is what they should do.

Yep. Mario put in the time recruiting these guys, so I have no problem with them following him. Even if he did make his final push after the Pac 12 CG while wearing Ducks gear. Lanning built the relationships. If he can use them to his advantage, then have at it.
