Even though I despise Bama and it's unrivaled success I admire Coach Sabans coaching performance. Player and Coach development is unrivaled anywhere. My wish and hope is that Coach Lanning can bring this results to Oregon.

I grew up when The U was the dominant team. I appreciate that Saban can keep Bama just as dominant without resorting to the type of swashbuckling hijinx that Miami was famous for.

  2. Great article. Coach Campbell was and is an Oregon football legend. It’s always good to reach back and get some advice and guidance from a man like him.

Another place I would look to see how things are done in the backfield is the University of Wisconsin. They always seem to get the most out of their RB’s. For example, their new RB this year was a 17 y/o true Freshman. Braelon Allen is his name. He’s just a local kid from the state of Wisconsin, but he’s a future star. His key to success is his weight training. He has a 405 lb. power clean and a 610 lb. squat.

Hi All, as a life long Dawg fan. I just wanted to let you guys know you are getting a very good coach and a pretty good recruiter. The staff hires he has made so far seem to be very good. I'm not 100% on how he will be as a HC but his personality and ethic is great and he has been one of the better DCs we have had. Some people will say that its Kirbys D and he's just a headpiece, But I don't see it that way. He has changed several things since taking over the D and from what I've seen they have all been good choices. It is his D that is based off of what Kirby setup to begin with. So it will be a great opening game for next year's season for us and you guys. Until then Cheers!

Good luck next week vs. Bama. You will have a contingent of fans pulling for you from the far reaches of the Pacific Northwest. While the phrase “Go Dawgs” isn’t in our vocabulary because of the dirty mutt fans up in Seattle, many of us will still be cheering for you guys.

We hope Dan Lanning continues the great tradition of coaches from the “Saban Tree”. We think we have a great situation for new head coaches to come into. Since 1993, we’ve only had two losing seasons. We’ve only ever hired one true HC from another program and he only stayed one season, so hiring unproven coaches is nothing new to us.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope we’re competitive in ATL next season. I live in the region, so I might show up.  Until then, Go Georgia, beat Bama!

Can we poach Cincy's special teams coach?  Our special teams haven't been special for the last 6 years.

Cincy’s kickers are like 8 for18 on FG’s this year. We should just hire Maldonado instead.

  5. It’s a good piece of writing. He nailed it on the QB development. One thing that he didn’t really get into was the amount of patience that will be needed from this fan base. Oregon will not be very good next year. There will not be a 10 win season.

I don’t think it will be because Lanning is a bad coach. I just think it will take more time to get the current players to buy into his system, recruit new players who fit his system and get right mix of assistant coaches to carry out his vision. These things take time and I don’t think there is enough talent to overcome the learning curve.

The portal will only help so much. I don’t want to sound like a Debbie Downer, but Bo Nix was a mildly average QB and Dillingham’s offense at FSU was mildly average this last season. Mix those two together and you get mildly average. I think the current WR corps will probably bump them up a few notches, but I don’t think they’ll set the Pac 12 on fire.

  6. Oregon hasn’t had a dominant RB since 2012. And, no, I don’t put Freeman in that dominant category. He did fine with a great team around him, but he was average with an average team around him. On the other hand, LMJ, Kenyon, LGB, Jeremiah and JStew could dominate a game on their own and made their teams better. I want to put DAT in there but he was at his best in the hybrid position.
