  1. Kentucky's HC Calipari:

I’ve got all my coaching buddies call, and they say, ‘I love your team.’ And I love this team too. We’re built for March.” Calipari said.

Yeah... built to get bounced again in the first round and enjoy March from the comfort of your man-cave at home.

And as the Master FishDuck sez: "I never said I was nobel."

Two thrilling upsets, our first overtime game, and a healthy heap of high-flying offense highlighted day two of the NCAA tournament.

    Absolutely love this quote:

"Greg Sankey just had to open his mouth. He just had to very publicly imply that the tournament needs to be tinkered with, and that giving automatic bids to smaller conferences is wasting them.

Well, look what you did now you absolute buffoon."

Oh well, I was hoping for a better finish but Grand Canyon took care of business in the final minutes.  Good for them!

Between GCU and James Madison there are two very dangerous 12 seeds advancing.  JMU looked very good earlier tonight.  They play a vicious brand of basketball.  Both of these teams play very good defense.

That GCU last 3:30 was painful to watch and downright ugly. Frankly, it was just very poorly played. They are fortunate that SMU did not have any time outs remaining after the 3:30 mark. GCU won't be able to get away with that kind of late poor play again. They need to learn how to use the clock, and they look like a JV team when trying to inbound the ball.

Still, what a great win for their program.

And James Madison... another lower seed excellent win too.

    March Madness!

  4. Love the Lopes. That's great that your kid goes their. One of sons went their and graduated a few years ago -- and he loved it.

Great school, environment, and amazing facilities.

But enough Lopes talk... GO DUCKS!

Everyone agrees about the court!  GET RID OF THAT ABOMINATION!  I don't care if it was designed by Tinker Hatfield, it's ugly and not even innovative!

Getting back to the game, some of their observations aren't that untrue.   Dante can turn the ball over under pressure, Couisnard is a decent player but no means a star, Shelsted is a small guard who can be bullied some if he can't get space, and our conference has been a bit of joke for the last few years, while the SEC has become much better.

I think it's a toss up game, but if I was USC I would be confident as well, they've had a great season for their program, they're on the rise, they're playing a team that has been inconsistent in the extreme, and hasn't shot well at all.

The floor is definitely innovative. But the bummer is that, while creative, it looks like crapola on TV. In person, it's not quite as bad.

But I feel like we're kind of the basketball equivalent of Boise State's vomit blue Smurf-Turf.

    Since 2018 (2020 was cancelled)

    Pac-12

    16 teams invited

    8 to the Sweet 16 (50%)

    3 to the Elite 8 (18.75%)

    1 to the Final 4 (6.25%)

    SEC

    32 teams invited

    12 to the Sweet 16 (37.5%)

    4 to the Elite 8 (12.5%)

    1 to the Final 4 (3.125%)

With more invites, the SEC has certainly been better at losing than the Pac.

Facts and data can just be so darn inconvenient sometimes.

How Oregon tweaked its defense to help the Ducks punch their NCAA Tournament ticket

The Oregon Ducks have changed their defense and its paying off.

The Oregon Ducks have changed their defense and its paying off.

The defense absolutely won the game against Colorado, forcing 13 TO's and picking up 9 Steals. They just smothered the Buffs.

And to have won by 7 while only shooting 12% from the 3, further underscores the exceptional defensive output.

  8. No doubt that teams will now double, and even perhaps triple team, Dante.

Especially after Oregon shot a horrendous 12% from the 3, opponents will likely feel some freedom to give our shooters some room and focus on defending Dante.

So, hopefully, our shooters will be feeling it and nail some early shots from downtown.

What a great game. Dante had one of the best must win games in Duck history.

That block the three then chase down the ball then save it inbounds to a team mate play at the end was the most impressive thing I’ve seen a center do.

I was having flashbacks to Oregon's great Greg Ballard.

And yes, that play near the end where Dante came way out to swat the daylights out of that attempted Buff 3, chase it down to keep it from going out of bounds, while tossing it to a teammate, seriously displayed his athletic talent & high b-ball IQ. It's my favorite play of the game.

  10. Dante's performance tonight truly reminded me of shades of Bill Walton in his playing days at UCLA -- with the exception of Bill's freaky-amazing passing ability.

Tonight, Dante's performance was a thing of beauty. Plus, his story of perseverance is incredible & inspirational.
