Maybe it was their intention to start out with the ball, but I was really surprised to see them starting with the ball again in the second overtime, not to mention seeing them going for 2 before they had to. However, it worked out for them.

I was listening on the radio on the way home from Autzen and the announcers stated that Colorado won the toss and elected to take go on offense first.

Also, under the new rules, teams have to go for 2 starting with the second OT.  Starting with the third OT, teams ONLY attempt two point conversions.

The coin toss going into overtime seemed mismanaged and confusing, but I’m pretty sure Colorado won the toss and decided to take the ball first. They then went for 2 points to help seal the win before they had to. Gutsy stuff, but it worked for them.

Not a good idea in my opinion to take the ball first in OT.  But under the new rules, a team has to go for 2 in the second OT.  Starting with third OT, the teams only attempt 2 point conversions.

The 10 teams may not have voting rights, but shouldn't they still get Pac 12 incentives, pac 12 network revenues, basketball tourney receipts, etc. up until the time they actually give up their membership?  They shouldn't be allowed to make determinations of Pac 12 future, or get future earnings, but I would think they should get their income share until they leave.

I don't disagree, but it's my understanding that there are significant liabilities (namely overpayment by Comcast and maybe continuing lease obligation in SF office?).  I wonder what is the net result of the accounting of assets and liabilities.

Should be easy to determine, but from what I have read (no inside knowledge whatsoever), it doesn't seem like the Pac-12 offices have their s*** together to provide that calculation. If true, another example of how poorly the higher ups operated the conference.

I quickly scanned the rosters of the Buffaloes and the Ducks and if the weights listed on the rosters are accurate and my math is correct, CU has 10 players 300 lbs or heavier and the Ducks have 29 players 300 lbs or heavier.  Heavier does not necessarily mean better, but it certainly helps to have some beef up front.

  5. Watched the game yesterday.  No doubt Phillipina has improved and will be very important piece to the puzzle this year (especially with Sedona out).  However, in my opinion, she is not yet a player you can get the ball to on the block and expect a bucket.  She shot 6-13 and I don't believe any of her shots were outside of the block.  It's early in the season and she will continue to improve and it will be fun to watch her grow.

If she becomes nearly automatic in the post, that will really open the outside for shooters such as Rogers.  I don't know enough about the top women's college basketball teams to declare that the Lady Ducks are a top 10 team, but I will declare that they should make the tournament and have the tools to make deep run.  Go Ducks!!!

  6. Like many, I thought the D would be better than it was and the O struggle more than than it did. More specifically, I predicted that the combination of Dorlus, Johnson, Sewell and Landing’s creative schemes would result in the Ducks’  D living in the opponents’ backfield.  In reality, the Ducks’ D got very little pressure on opposing QBs.

I also thought for sure Cardwell would have a breakout season!

  7. As an almost 54 year old life long Duck fan, I appreciate and understand the premise of Charles' article that an injured QB can derail a season.  Lots of examples, but Dennis Dixon is Exhibit A.

However, I firmly believe that every team should play to win, not play not to lose.  I've been a basketball coach for almost 3 decades and practice what I preach.

While I agree that running a QB between the tackles has a higher degree of risk, and should not be used repeatedly, if it gives the Ducks an advantage in the game I think it is incumbent on the coaches to use that advantage.  I'm also in favor of taking reasonable risks on 4th downs. It's worked most of the season, with the exception of the late 4th down attempt against the Fuskies (which I believe should have been a sneak by Ty under center).  Nothing works all of the time, but I am in favor of keeping the pedal to the mtetal and putting pressure on the opposing D as much as reasonably possible and I hope coach Lanning never loses his aggressive tendencies.

My $0.02. Your mileage may vary.

    Go Ducks!!!

  8. I agree that the return of the injured guards will help a lot (and allow Richardson to play more off the ball). And while the team is struggling to shoot the ball, in my opinion their  defense is much improved over last year.  Hopefully the improved defense can carry the Ducks until injured players return. But Houston on Sunday is no joke!

    I respectfully disagree.

He's had first team linemen, etc. at times. Yes, he's had some dropped balls, etc. But lack of effort is 100% on him.

I've read a lot of compelling comments in his favor. His actions are not compelling.

I have no doubt he has the "can do". I don't see the "will do". I want him to excel and don't want to keep harping, but this topic keeps coming up and I think it's all on him.

Ty has to quiet the critics. No one can do that for him.

    Go Ducks! Go Ty!

While I agree that TT's actions are not compelling, I also agree TThas been given little opportunity to succeed.

The play calling when Bo is in the game compared to when TT is in the game is night and day.  Against Arizona, TT was only allowed to throw pre-determined swing passes.

My guess is that the coaches don't trust TT right now to run the full offense, but I think they need to give him a chance so that they can evaluate what he can and can't do under the bright lights.
