  1. The ESPN focus on USC this weekend is ultimately good for the entire Pac-12.  For many years now the narrative has been that the Pac-12 is an also-ran conference, barely better than the Group of Five.  With a strong Oregon, a strong USC, and a strong Utah, that narrative will change.

  2. A case can be made that he was the best who ever played the game, in terms of his mastery of every aspect of basketball.  One of the great disappointments in sports is that his health did not allow for more than short glimpses of that greatness.

As an announcer, he is kind of a nut.  He's his own person, that's for sure.  He follows the beat of his own (Grateful Dead) drummer.

It's about time the auction closed. USC did have a highly rated OL last season. 4 of the guys are back. I look for many the SC shoot out in 2022.

USC's O-line was actually fairly good last season, just not a lot of depth.  The D-line is the biggest issue at this point, and I'm sure that Riley has a plan.  I don't think it's a profound statement to say that more top-tier athletes will now be attracted to USC now, especially with CW being there the next two years.

  4. The "EXPERT'S" are falling all over themselves to see who can slobber all over Riley and U$C the most. Why even play out the conference games. Just put U$C in the CFP and call it a day.

Just like USC fans are absolutely convinced that "Uncle Phil" has paid for Oregon recruits for years.  Seems it's a case of whose ox is being gored.

    Respectfully disagree

The world has changed and it ain't going back. They canceled the entire season last year without a thought and no one batted an eye.

Those Carrol Trojan teams were a once in a lifetime thing and aren't coming back.

Wouldn't surprise me if schools like Cal and or Stanford actually eliminate football in the next 5 to 10 years.

SC played 6 games last year, and UCLA played 7.  Most of the cancellations were on their opponent's part.

As a former Aztec, I look with pride at those performances.  But one sick kind of irony...the Aztecs head coach has been none other than....(drum roll)...Brady Hoke.  (And I STILL don't like him.)  602664496_grumpyoldman.gif.974b7d1d17b28c92f1e405b4fd637961.gif

Brady has always done very well there.  Not sure why there and not at other places.  Their new stadium is going to be nice.  SDSU could be a solid program for the foreseeable future.

Good stuff. Based on the location of and compared to many the B12 team, Portland/Eugene, Denver, San Francisco/Oakland and Salt Lake City (B12 covered by BYU?) are all good sized markets. Tucson is a decent sized market.

I was surprised to learn that OK City and Tulsa combined (per Andy Staples) is the 4th largest TV market in the country. Could have had OK ST but, oh well.

The Bay Area is a real problem for the PAC-12.  College sports has a minuscule following there.  It’s like the northeast - all they care about is pro sports.  The stadium at Cal, in particular, is a great to watch college football, but even when Cal is good they rarely sell out.  Stanford has a small alumni base in comparison to the other PAC-12 schools, and most alums don’t live in the area.  They did a great job with their new stadium, but again, struggle with attendance.  With this level of overall disinterest, the number of TVs in the Bay Area is a misleading stat IMO.

Thanks Steven. Reading this, why does Mullens still have a job? A 5 year extension for Helfrich? Followed by hiring 2 G5 coaches with losing records in the G5.

Mario won a consolation bowl game. Big whoop. He missed 2 playoffs with a ridiculous loss at ASU and with the best roster in the conference, barfing on The Farm and being blown out by a Utah team that had never won a conference title.

My take, like Hayward notes above, Mullens is just covering his sorry ass.

Don't forget how incredibly high Chip was on Helfrich.  He viewed him as a "can't miss" and pushed extremely hard on his behalf.  I don't have heartburn over that decision by Mullens.  Taggert, on the other hand, was a big reach.  Swing and miss.
