  1. Of course Nix and Gabriel were were essential to our success the last two years. But I don't see seeking to grab a high level transfer every year as a formula for success at the blue blood, win national championships level. Great programs rely more on bringing top talent five stars and DEVELOPING them into great college QBs. Not sure how much Lanning's staff developed Nix and Gabriel. They both came in with experiences from multiple offenses and were superior mental processors. This staff had a year and a half to develop Dante. If we are now complaining about his inability to see the field, has poor footwork, and nervous feet when he's blitzed; this is a lack of developmental coaching. Always seeking to bring in high level transfer QBs would certainly negatively impact recruiting. Both Dante and Sayin were redshirts on the bench last year. Sayin has extremely good mechanics, footwork, throwing motion, field vision and processing skills. Some came naturally, but others have come through developmental coaching. Lanning is a great motivational and recruiting coach. But just like his team he is young. Why was he feeding his QB rat poison by telling the world Dante was the best QB in America? Lanning needs to learn there are more important tasks than making a splash.
  2. Ask tosu if they miss Knowles. Nope. Remember, Saban called Knowel's defense antiquated when tosu lost to the Ducks. It was only after that that tosu defense started running more line stunts and blitzes that fueled the Buckeye playoff run. Knowles defense requires each player to execute their part perfectly, hardly varies, and is isn't flexible. His first year at tosu was marked by frequent explosion plays. Day was glad to see him go.
  3. Too early to worry. Sayin, Moore, Manning and others have yet to play much ball. Players gotta play. Some of these media outlets use false hope or fear as click bait. Sayin finished the spring with a strong scrimmage game.
  4. Signing players does not make one elite. Winning games and a Natty or two makes one elite.
  5. I was very disappointed after the loss to Michigan. I thought Chip Kelly was above the three yards and a cloud of dust bs. I think both the Michigan game and the first duck game were the result of hubris. The Buckeyes coaches thought they could rely on talent alone. The Duck game was a wakeup call to the defense and the Michigan game a wakeup for the offense. I got a kick out of Saban calling the defensive scheme of the Buckeyes antiquated after the Duck game. With the expanded playoffs, teams can now experiment more knowing they can make the playoffs with a loss or two. Hopefully the Buckeyes will loosen up and get over their mental obsession over Michigan. The curse of Woody!
  6. And now I see 15 Buckeyes were drafted into the NFL. What a lesson. What a year for the Buckeyes!
  7. According to Mel Kiper's projections, the Buckeyes have 9 and the Ducks have 4 players in the top ten at their respective positions, Many of these Buckeyes would not be ranked where they are a year ago. They came back to be elite, and win a championship. There is always a lot of talk from the Buckeye players about their development in the off season, and building for their opportunity to start. This is the next step for the Ducks. I'm a Duckeye. I'm for the Ducks every game until they play my alma mater.
  8. No OSU player or coach ever said they were humiliated to lose to Oregon at Autzen. Like Jon said. Chip is smart butt east coast guy and couldn't resist a good quip.
  9. Say whatever. Chip was an innovator in his time with the Ducks and helped them create the brand that they are. He was not a good public speaker or recruiter. So the Buckeyes are blessed to have the best offensive coordinator there is. He now gets to do what he loves, which is to out scheme the other side. He demonstrated this again against ND to win the championship. And yes he was talking some sh#t.
  10. Not buying the layoff was to blame for the lobsided result. As the article pointed out the Buckeyes had three weeks between the Michigan butt kicking lesson and the demolition of Tennessee. Beat them as bad as the Ducks with three weeks off. They used the time as a lesson and to get their act together. As far as what the Ducks need going forward, experience at the highest levels is the number one. Sometimes a good butt kicking is just what you need when you are cruising high on yourself.
  11. Why Oregon was so outclassed at the Rose Bowl by Ohio State | The Seattle Times
  12. At this point in the season OSU would beat the Ducks 8 out of 10 times. I say at this time because this team has evolved schematically and found it's mojo and swagger after the loss to Michigan. Kelly has ramped up the aggression and is allowing the supremely athletic players make plays. The player and coach meetings led to the players demanding to be cut loose. The defense has totally changed since Saban called their approach antiquated. I think the defensive coordinator has finally wrestled control away from the long time line coach and is scheming up a storm. Hence the 8 sacks on the ducks. Another difference between the talent of the Ducks and Buckeyes is that the Buckeye players have been more developed by time in the program. Many of Oregon's best players came from the portal. New to the team. Jack Sawyer convinced many of his draft ready teammates to come back for one more year. Look who's dominated: Henderson, Sawyer, Tuimoloau, and Egbuka. Finally, with the players cut loose the Buckeyes superior strength and speed show. Look how fast Henderson, Downs, and Styles play. In the Rose bowl the Buckeyes manhandled Oregon's offensive line. Men playing boys. I am an Oregon fan until they play the Buckeyes. Had football and women's basketball season tickets for over 10 years. Love the Ducks. They will be back. But they have some growing to do.
  13. The Buckeyes after some soul searching upon losing to Oregon and Michigan made big changes to both their offense and defense. They have evolved into their potential despite a diminished offense line. I believe Oregon is the second-best team in college. Going in I thought the winner of the game would go all the way. Still do.
  14. As another said, Alabama is the Mountain peak. He will have to go. Alabama will have no problem with a $20 million buyout. Donors will be rising out of the Mississippi. Only chance is if Vrabel takes it. But who opts out of the NFL anymore. Kiffin is too squirrelly for staid Alabama. DeBoer too much outsider. Dabo's been labeled behind the times. He's a butt anyway. Watch out! Damn, I was hoping to see what Lanning could do in the Big 10. Alabama coaching candidates: Dan Lanning, Steve Sarkisian, Dabo Swinney among options to replace Nick Saban - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM One of the most coveted jobs in college football has opened after the greatest coach in history has called it quits
