I do not think Ty Thompson ever had much of a chance this year to show us what he might be capable of. It was pretty clear that the University, the Athletic Department and Dan Lanning were going to promote Bo Nix for the Heisman. "Not that there is anything wrong with that" but Bo played enormous minutes that might have gone to TT in a perfect world. Ty, I hope you find a great place to practice your skills!

How many 4th quarters did Nix sit out this year so TT could get game time? I'd say far more than the average starting QB sits out to give his backup game experience. TT has had numerous opportunities to get up to speed, prove himself, etc. The big reason it didn't work out for TT was the writing on the wall... It just wasn't in the cards. TT is/was a loyal Duck and a great guy, but he wants to play so best he finds a team that fits his talents and skills.

It seems naive to think that if Bo would have gone down due to serious injury that TT could have stepped in and produced at anywhere near a level needed to win.

  2. Perhaps DeBoer is Lanning's Kryptonite. More importantly, Lanning needs to figure out how to get his team to start games with more emphasis, and carry the intensity through all 4 quarters.

The Ducks can play, we know because we've seen 20-30+ minutes of very good play per game this year. To beat WA though, we need to play all 4 quarters with all cylinders firing. As impressive as the Ducks looked (at times) this year, it's never been a full 60 minutes of hammer down play. If Lanning can figure this out we'd be virtually unstoppable.

I never had FSU higher than 7th all year long. I viewed uw and a one loss Oregon above FSU.  A one loss Oregon would have probably made the playoff. Would you have supported FSU keeping Oregon out?

If the Ducks would have won... I'm starting to think the CFP committee would have taken Georgia over a one loss Ducks team.

  4. This wasn't the first game the Ducks basically 'phoned it in' for the first 20-25 minutes. Playing effective offense right before the half and then through the third quarter, only to fall back off over the fourth worked fine on everyone but the huskies. The 20-25 minute scoring plan clearly didn't fool WA.

Did Lanning and Stein really think that anything less than 60 minutes at 100% would get the job done?

The 31-34 score doesn't really tell the whole story, this game was a shellacking.

    Onward and upward, Go Ducks!

    Agreed on all points.

...but TT still has to be really frustrated.

I'm not certain that he is. By appearances TT seems fine where he's at. Either way, there's no way DL leaves to chance that TT or AN 'might' be fully game ready for next season. We should always expect vigorous competition for the starting QB spot!

  6. Regardless of who Lanning and staff might pick out of the portal, my point was that I trust their judgement. Maybe it's just me, but USC looks like a talented group that's ripe for the picking. Not that all USC talent would be worth the trouble, much of it would not be. Part of the game now is how well you leverage the portal and I believe Lanning and staff know what they're doing.

Log Haulin, I admire your faith in TT. I just haven't seen enough to have much confidence that he can succeed outside of garbage time, and even that appears iffy. However, if Lanning believes TT is our guy then I'm in.

  7. I was wondering about this after the USC game. Right about the same time as USC players were busy posing for pics with various Ducks, especially Bo. I was thinking there would be bad-blood, whiffed hand shakes, and generally ignoring each other post game, but no, not even close!

If coach Lanning thinks bringing CW onboard for next year I'd support it 100%. Other Trojans, like Bear Alexander could benefit greatly under Lanning's guidance too.

As much as I hate to say it, TT will never be our starter, he simply does not have "it".

As for USC fans, remember Travis Dye?
