Tennessee was aware that Iamaleava's representatives had reached out to at least one other school, Oregon, prior to the start of spring practice, sources told ESPN, but Oregon said it wasn't interested.

I hope this is accurate. This kind of thing could really divide a locker room.

Tennessee is moving on from starting quarterback Nico Iamaleava, sources told ESPN, in the wake of his decision to not attend practice Friday amid NIL contract discussions with the school.

  2. A description of the oddball football lunatics on Lanning's staff.

Dan Lanning, the Ducks’ unconventional, 38-year-old head coach, has populated his staff with a collection of oddball coaches and analysts who largely built their reputations in the wonkiest corners of social media and obscure coaching clinics.

Their résumés don’t suggest they belong at a college football power like Oregon. Defensive analyst Dante Bartee was the defensive coordinator at Ottawa University, a small Baptist institution located not in Canada, but in Kansas. His colleague, Kyle Cogan, coached the defensive backs at somewhere called Benedictine College, which has roughly 2,000 students. Neither of them played football at a high level.

    ...

In some ways, it isn’t surprising that in the internet age, it’s possible to uncover the secrets of the most complicated tactics in football. The part that definitely is surprising is that those kinds of people were able to land jobs at Oregon. Lanning said his analysts are people he knew from previous career stops, picked from a list he has been compiling since he was a graduate assistant at Arizona State more than a decade ago.

“Guys that don’t necessarily have that experience, they have other strengths that you want to lean in on,” he said. And it shows. Oregon’s season has been defined by taking advantage of unusual situations that only a true football lunatic would have the wherewithal to recognize.

In November, Oregon drew a crucial 5-yard penalty against Michigan by deploying a bizarre punt formation that tricked a defender into lining up directly in front of the snapper, which is illegal. Against Ohio State in October, the Ducks intentionally put 12 defenders on the field late in the contest, accepting the five-yard foul in exchange for running precious seconds off the clock.

  3. Fun read from Trojans Wire about how USC is still haunted by Josh Conerly's decision to play for Oregon.

    Quote

Josh Conerly paired with Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel has helped the Ducks consistently defeat Big Ten opponents. Oregon handled Michigan on the road this year. USC did not. Oregon wiped out Maryland this year. USC did not. Conerly has excelled against the same Big Ten opponents which defeated USC. Imagine if Conerly was a Trojan this year, not a Duck. The impact he would have made is self-evident.

As Josh Henson leaves USC, his failures primarily stem from losing to Oregon for Josh Conerly. That recruiting loss proved to be hugely pivotal for the Trojans.

One thing I did not understand.  Before the snap on the TD play, Duck players were looking toward the bench and motioning thumbs down.  That could mean any of several different things, like we don't like the play you sent in to kneel down, or maybe we want to take a knee.

Or, it could go back to the Roman Ceasar in the coliseum and the indication when Ceasar wanted the victor of the battle to kill the defeated opponent.

Check out this week's Ducks vs Them video. It was a reference to Russell Crowe's Gladiator. Essentially, show them no mercy.

Ohio Stadium felt more like a morgue than a fun fan experience Saturday against Nebraska. Why can't the Shoe be more like...

Ohio State and Oregon played a Big Ten game Oct. 12 in an Autzen Stadium environment epitomizing what college football should be – a fun and frenetic fan experience in a rip-and-roar atmosphere that amplified home field advantage.

Two weeks later, the Buckeyes defeated Nebraska 21-17 in Ohio Stadium. It got loud enough that the Cornhuskers were flagged for a false start on their final drive, but for most of the game it was snoozy, and it never got Autzen loud, despite almost double the crowd size.

    He gets it.
