Oregon college coaches, athletic directors won’t be suspended for bad behavior of fans under amended House bill Bynum told the committee she removed the penalties against college coaches and athletic directors for fan behavior, which would have been unprecedented, “based on feedback from the committee and from the public.” I'm glad she finally realized how silly her bill was. WSU's Pat Chun before Congress blasts 'toxic, unsustainable, current form of NIL' WASHINGTON STATE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR Pat Chun, testifying in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday before the House Subcommittee on Innovation, Data, and Commerce, pulled no punches in forcefully saying name, image, likeness (NIL), in its current form, is toxic for WSU’s student-athletes. “Although true NIL provides tremendous opportunities for student-athletes, the existing environment consists of recruiting inducements, tampering and ultimately pay-for-play, and is wrought with pitfalls and misinformation,” Chun said. Chun, sepaking at the hearing Taking the Buzzer Beater to the Bank: Protecting College Athletes’ NIL Dealmaking Rights, said NIL could and should be a major positive for student-athletes -- but the NIL model schools are working under is unsustainable and toxic. He called on Congress to partner with the NCAA and member institutions to develop federal standards, with transparency and enforceable safeguards. Ducks begin challenging three-week stretch of conference play starting Friday against Arizona Over the next three weeks of Pac-12 baseball, each team will have a much better idea of where their team stands amongst the rest. As of Thursday, Oregon sits in sixth place in the Pac-12, playing in only six conference games, tied for the fewest with Arizona State. The Sun Devils, surprisingly, leads the Pac-12 with a 5-1 record, but Stanford and USC sport a 7-2 record. Oregon will go through arguably their toughest stretch of conference play starting on Friday, as they travel to Tucson and take on the Arizona Wildcats before hosting rival Oregon State and Pac-12 preseason favorite Stanford. Ducks begin challenging three-week stretch of conference play starting Friday against Arizona 247SPORTS.COM Starting Friday, Oregon enters a challenging three-week stretch against Arizona. Oregon pitching coach Jake Angier discusses starters’ success and challenges of handling a young staff Underneath all the offensive flare, one area quietly slipped under the radar for Oregon last weekend: starting pitching. Oregon’s starters struggled badly against Washington State two weekends ago, despite the team’s overall series victory. However, in a young season that has already seen so many ups and downs, there was another “up,” as the pitchers thrived en route to a four-game sweep of the Northwestern State Demons. “It’s not going to be sunshine and rainbows all the time,” pitching coach Jake Angier said. “But that’s why I’m doing it. I’m having fun with it. These guys are young, and they’re growing and they’re getting better, and you can see it with their confidence in what they’re doing.” Click here to read more about the Duck pitchers in this article from the Daily Emerald. ------------------------------- Oregon finds a lineup that works during six-game winning streak If this Oregon baseball season has proven anything, it’s that so much can change from week to week, and even game to game. The Ducks have now continued a rather odd pattern in their rollercoaster season. They started with a four-game sweep; they followed by getting swept in three games. Then they won five in a row, and then they lost four in a row. Now, they’re on a commanding six-game winning streak. For those keeping score at home, that’s 4-3, 5-4, 6 — a trend which would require them to lose five in a row to keep the pattern going. But if they play anywhere as well as they did last weekend against Northwestern State, it’s hard to envision that happening — particularly if they keep swinging the bats the way they are, with an absurd 73 runs in that six-game span. Read more about the lineup in this article from The Daily Emerald.

This tweet is just a small snippet of the interview. To view the full interview, click on the link in the tweet. Is Morgan Scott Oregon Softball’s New Ace? With the exodus of several pitchers at the end of the 2022 season, it was imperative that coach Melyssa Lombardi find a pitcher or pitchers that could take off the excessive pitching load that Stevie Hansen was forced to endure last year. That was a huge number of pitches for any pitcher to have to throw, and it doesn’t matter how talented one is at the circle; you’re going to falter at some point, and just have to suck it up because there is no one to relieve you. There were many stages in last year where the Ducks had to relieve Hansen, and there were no pitchers consistently up to the task. Scotty came from the University of North Carolina Greensboro, had a reputation for throwing strikes, and was a two-time Southern Conference Player of the Year. The background looked good, but how would Scott perform in an elite softball conference like the Pac-12? Is Morgan Scott Oregon Softball’s New Ace? Oregon Football 2024 Recruiting Hot Board: EDGE If you watched Oregon's defense in 2022 it didn't take long to notice a recurring theme. The Ducks couldn't get after the quarterback, totaling just 18 sacks on the year and getting shredded through the air. Dan Lanning and Tosh Lupoi signed a number of talented edge rushers in the 2023 recruiting class to try and fix that problem including Matayo Uiagalelei, Blake Purchase and Teitum Tuioti. They also added highly-coveted South Carolina transfer Jordan Burch from the transfer portal. Now we're taking a look at the top EDGE targets for Oregon in the 2024 recruiting class. Read who the Edge targets are in this Max Torres article from Ducks Digest.

A congressional hearing Wednesday targeting "NIL chaos" in college sports drifted into the ramifications of athletes being deemed employees of their schools and mostly highlighted those who support congressional intervention to protect the collegiate model. A subcommittee of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce held the first hearing related to college sports on Capitol Hill in more than two years. The intended focus was name, image and likeness compensation for athletes. College sports leaders have been calling for help in the form of a federal law to bring uniform regulation to the way athletes can earn money off their fame with sponsorship or endorsement deals. Rep. Gus Bilirakis (Fla.-R), the chairman of the subcommittee on Innovation, Data, and Commerce, said passing a federal NIL law that would pre-empt existing state laws would provide clarity and transparency for athletes. How Oregon signees Mookie Cook and Kwame Evans Jr. performed at the McDonald's All-American Game Two of Oregon's three signees of the 2023 class participated in the McDonald's All-American Game last night as Mookie Cook lost to Kwame Evans Jr. and Team East in a thrilling 109-106 game, marking one of the most competitive MCDAAG in recent memory.
